TRIPOLI, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Libyan authorities have identified 50 people who were involved in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in which the ambassador and three other Americans were killed, a security official said on Saturday.

U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three others died when gunmen attacked the consulate and a safe house refuge in the eastern city on Tuesday night. The attackers were part of a crowd blaming America for a film they said insulted the Prophet Mohammad.

So far four people have been arrested and are being questioned, Libyan officials have said.

"We know of 50 people who were involved in the attack, we have names and we know who they are, but there could be more," Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee, said.

1. Terrific! This is great news!

I hope they arrest all 50 and give them a fair trial before they meet out the punishment, according to whatever laws apply in Libya,

6. Perhaps.

Perhaps it's just a weak central government faced with something that would trash a lot of support from abroad doing something to save face while cleaning up some opponents. Perhaps they'll get a "fair trial" (tm) and vanish.

Perhaps it's a bunch of people rounded up who will get their actors' pay when the hullabaloo blows over, their "fair trial" being for show and their freedom assured.

Perhaps they're really the bad guys.

Then are those who might question how they've taken what many would want to think are hardened, inveterate jihadists and gotten them to confess the names of 50 associates in just a couple of days. Those who pose this question may want to see current photos of those who were questioned.

3. Does anyone think this will somehow lead back to Sheldon Adelson's money?

Wouldn't it be reasonable to think that when you've got a lot of money involved in this race, and you want to win, you'll pull any number of strings to make 'things happen' - especially if the cost ratio is working for you vs. ads that aren't? Or wouldn't people under you think they were doing you a favor by pulling the strings?

Of course I'm simply asking questions, not in the least bit making any accusations.

None whatsoever.

4. I think it's possible..

There's too much bazaar politics these days to overlook any possibility.

I'm not going to be accusatory either, just aware.

5. I'll accuse 'em.

I believe history is the best predictor of current and future behavior. I cite:

* Kissinger and Nixon's Republicans sabotaging negotiations over de-escalating the war in Vietnam, in order to keep that war "hot" so that Nixon's election would be assured. Thousands more Americans and Vietnamese died as a result.

http://hnn.us/articles/60446.html

* The "October Surprise," denied by the same people in the same way that they denied the Iran-Contra scandal. There was no secret copying of emails during the analog Reagan campaign of 1980, but recently revealed records suggest that yes, they did indeed negotiate with the Iranians in order to keep Americans held hostage for the duration of Jimmy Carter's term.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_surprise_conspiracy_theory

* The impeachment of Bill Clinton. Call it what it was, an attempt to usurp the duly elected President of the United States over a fucking blow job.

* The election theft of Florida in 2000.

http://archive.democrats.com/display.cfm?id=181

* The election theft of Ohio in 2004.

http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0601-34.htm

At this point, one would be foolish to expect the Republicans to do anything else but resort to criminal behavior in an attempt to protect their investment.

I personally am assuming it. The rest of you will catch up to me later.
