It is true that $250,000 is definitely high income nonetheless. For most in the so-called middle class, that figure generally reflects BOTH partners working rather than a single wage-earner. Here's one overview of middle class income from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_middle_class#Income (using US census bureau figures from 2005) Here is Median (not necessarily "middle-class") US Household Income from the US Census Bureau. http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/acsbr08-2.pdf (2007-2008 surveys, issued in Sept 2009) The median household income estimates in the 2008 ACS ranged from a median of $70,545 for Maryland to $37,790 for Mississippi.
Edited to add: I received an excellent income in the last 15 years that I worked full-time (I'm now retired but teach as an "adjunct") and during the last five years my husband, once he had turned 70 1/2, had to make mandated withdrawals from his IRA. Even then, and while we lived VERY comfortably, our combined income never achieved $250,000. Romney is totally clueless. |

7. I'd like to know what these $250k jobs are.
|
Except for some doctors and surgeons, I can't really think of jobs that regularly pay anywhere near that.
If it hadn't been for the Bush years, then yeah maybe there would be more 6 figure jobs. |

Anything to do with finance, like banking, investing, trading. Upper management at insurance, engineering, manufacturing, corporate farms, the six largest of the publishers, and office building real estate. I can probably come up with more, but I hope you get the picture. The world makes some people wealthy with all the other things we do on this planet than just medical

Last edited Fri Sep 14, 2012, 03:58 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Romney's comments came an interview broadcast Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."
"No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers," Romney told host George Stephanopoulos. "Is $100,000 middle income?" Stephanopoulos asked. . "No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less," Romney responded. ______________________________________________________________________________________ He really said this on national television...??? |

12. Romney wants to extend the tax cuts for everyone.
|
How can they in good conscience end the article with "Obama wants to extend Bush-era tax cuts for those making less than $250,000, while Romney wants to extend the tax cuts for everyone." when the only thing to be taken away from his statement is those under 200k may be SOL
"No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers," Romney told host George Stephanopoulos. "Is $100,000 middle income?" Stephanopoulos asked. "No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less," Romney responded. |
