Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev Calls For Pussy Riot Rockers To Be Freed

MOSCOW — Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has called for three members of the punk band Pussy Riot to be freed, saying further prison time would be “unproductive.”

Medvedev’s comments on Wednesday could signal the band members’ imminent release as their case comes up for appeal on Oct. 1.

The women had already spent more than five months in jail when they were convicted in August of “hooliganism driven by religious hatred” and sentenced to two years in prison.

They were arrested after performing a raucous prayer inside Moscow’s main cathedral asking Virgin Mary to save Russia from Vladimir Putin. The imprisonment of the women has drawn protests around the world as it highlighted Putin’s intensifying crackdown on dissent.

1. There he is!

I miss Medvedev. Partly because of statements such as this. Partly because of his mocking of Romney. Mostly because he's a human, unlike Putin.

I worry about the guy, though. I doubt that Putin appreciates him, much. Doesn't sound like a healthy relationship.

4. Putin is a cold war relic. Medvedev is younger and may have a different outlook,

just like younger people here. They don't remember the nasty years before the Berlin Wall came down.

Relations between Russia and the west won't be normal until the cold warriors go to their rewards, and even then, I believe that there will be some problems.

Nonetheless, I hope that Medvedev is showing his true self and that there are others in Russia who want a normal, 21st century nation like he seems to.

3. Hello to all blondes: Putin

I remember an incident when a journalist asked Russian President Vladimir Putin "what is your message for blondes"

Vladimir Putin said "Hello to all blondes"
