When Paul Ryan voted against the 9/11 heroes

Source: Daily Kos

The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, the law that created the World Trade Center Health Program to provide compensation for illnesses for the first responders and residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, has been expanded to include coverage for a variety of cancers.
The law was passed in 2010, named for police detective James Zadroga, who died at age 34 after working at Ground Zero. You might remember that Republicans opposed the bill in committee and then blocked passage of the bill under suspension before it was finally passed in the House under a regular rule and sent to the Senate.

You also might remember that Paul Ryan was among those Republicans voting against providing coverage to the 9/11 heroes. He voted against it in July 2010. He voted against it in September 2010. He didn't vote against final passage in December 2010 because he's already skipped town for the holiday break. But when Congress reconvened in January, he gave a floor statement saying that he would have voted against it, again.

Ryan explained in a floor statement that he would have opposed the final passage vote, too, calling the bill “deeply flawed.” He also complained that it “would create a new health care entitlement, the World Trade Center Health Program, while also extending eligibility for compensation under the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001.”

If Paul Ryan speaks today in remembrance of the heroes and the victims of 9/11, remember that Ryan doesn't think that those heroes and the people living through the prolonged horror of what happened at Ground Zero deserve anything from their government. Apparently, in Ryan's mind, they're just moochers, looking for an entitlement.

1. We Need To Make Sure That The Info In This Post That Ryan Voted Against 9/11 Hero's.....

goes viral. All the news networks don't want us to forget 9/11. MSNBC was replaying the events of the day as they happened wanting us to relive that day. All of those hero's that went to ground zero and risked their lives need to be remembered and we need to remind everyone that the person that wishes to be second in line to the presidency - voted against their best interests when he had the chance.

What kind of person is that? And do you want that person as the 2nd in command of this country and a heartbeat away from the presidency?

5. The only media figure to call attention to this betrayal at that time was Jon Stewart.

Jon dedicated a whole show in Dec. 2010 to this, and it was brilliant.

Nearly pulling his hair out at one point, Stewart expressed his annoyance at "the party that turned 9/11 into a catchphrase" now blocking legislation to help its heroes. Adding to his frustration, none of the three major networks have covered the story in over two months. Surprisingly, Stewart realized this was actually a job for Fox News, "the nation's leading source of 9/11-based outrage."

8. Most other Repubs like Darrell Issa pulled a "Ryan"

i.e. The Republicans voted lock step against 9/11 first responders in every previous incarnation of this bill. The final bill passed
the House finally after a past of Repub monolithic obstruction. 59 extremist Repubs voted against the final bill, and most Repub Congressmen who'd opposed before(like Ryan and Issa), "abstained" ...which means they did NOT vote for it.

Not a Xmas vacation issue.

Every Democratic Congress Candidate should publicize their Repub opponent's years of voting against 9/11 first responders.
It's really harsh and vivid proof of their hypocrisy and utter uselessness.
