CNN Poll Shows Obama Up Six Points Over Romney

President Obama received a four-point bump after his party's convention in Charlotte, N.C., according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Monday.

Obama leads Romney by six points, attracting 52 percent of the support from likely voters. The candidates were tied at 48 percent each prior to the Democratic National Convention.

The president’s favorability rating also earned a boost: 57 percent hold a favorable view of Obama after the convention, while 42 percent view him unfavorably. Before the Charlotte gathering, those numbers were 51 percent to 48 percent. Romney received a three-point favorability bump after the GOP convention. But in the week afterward, his numbers settled below the 50 percent favorability he had before the Tampa gathering. The CNN poll found 48 percent have a favorable opinion of Romney, while 47 percent view him unfavorably.

After the Democratic convention, 51 percent of likely voters believe Obama holds a more optimistic vision for America’s future while 41 percent say the same of Romney. But after the Republican convention, 47 percent said Romney was more hopeful about the future, while 43 percent said the same of Obama. A similar scenario occurred when voters were asked about the candidates' plans for the future. Before the GOP convention, 45 percent thought Romney would be more likely to have a clear plan, while 39 percent said the same of Obama. After the Democratic convention, the results were reversed.
