I'm a webmaster for a site that uses GoDaddy as a host, I was in the middle of doing some major pushes to the website and marketing some upcoming events when suddenly I was getting DNS errors. GoDaddy is down as are all the sites they host and I am panicking that my 7 hours of work today is now gone.

Their "customer service" people are ALL sales people. They won't let you talk to tech support, you have to go through a "customer (sales) service" person. Support varies from slow to incorrect.
Their back end interface is bloated and convoluted, and those are two of the nicer words I use when working in it. Oh, and aside from all the constant upselling, they are also more expensive. go daddy, go away, go far far away! |

and that they won't let you talk to the real tech support people. I've been working with them for over a year.
I'm currently managing over 200 sites for a customer so have had a lot of interaction with them. Compared to other ISP's, they are more expensive, and take more of my time than any other ISP I have worked with. And on at least 70% of the calls have included a soft sell for additional products. |

Second, what Congressional Republicans Define as “Small Businesses” Include Millionaires and Billionaires, Law Partners, Hedge Fund Managers, and Passive Investors. Congressional Republicans define as small businesses any individual who receives “small business income”. Under this definition:
◦Over half of the 400 Highest Earners in the United States Would Be “Small Businesses”: According to IRS data, in 2009, among the 400 taxpayers with the highest adjusted gross income – group that averages over $200 million each in taxable income – at least 237 would have qualified as “small businesses” under this definition. ◦Hedge Fund Managers and Law Firm Partners are “Small Businesses”: It counts any type of partnership income, proprietor income, or S corporation income as “small business” income. That includes: ■income received by partners in law firms – each and every one of whom would be considered a “small business” under this definition ■income received by partners in hedge funds – each and every one of whom would be considered a “small business” under this definition ■passive income on investments ■income from renting out a property like a vacation home. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/07/09/extending-middle-class-tax-cuts-98-americans-and-97-small-businesses |

You're not hurting GoDaddy you assholes...you're hurting the people who depend on them for their small business. I was working on my genealogy site when it crashed, and have been somewhat stressed since. I didn't know what happened. Had tried godaddy.com and it was down too. I decided to check in on DU and catch up on politics and saw the headline! OHHH! LOL I have genealogy and photography data tables on my site, and they're all down. Real bummer. My condolences to you guys whose income depends on your sites. Curiously, my htm pages are all working, though. I'm optimistic that they'll get it all back. Damn shame somebody would deliberately do this - clearly hurting an awful lot of regular people a lot more than the company.
As far as the comments on experiences with GoDaddy's customer service concerned, personally I have nothing but praises. The guys who answer the phone have always been very helpful and professional and gone the extra mile to help me out, kind, courteous, and bring things down to my level of expertise. Granted, I only have the economy site and my problems have been probably elementary stuff; but they made me feel like a valued customer. And they've never tried to pressure me to buy anything. |
