Obama widens lead over Romney despite jobs data: Reuters/Ipsos poll...
Source: Reuters
President Barack Obama, picking up support following the Democratic National Convention, widened his narrow lead over Republican U.S. presidential challenger Mitt Romney in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Saturday.
The latest daily tracking poll showed Obama, a Democrat, with a lead of 4 percentage points over Romney. Forty-seven percent of 1,457 likely voters surveyed online over the previous four days said they would vote for Obama if the November 6 elections were held today, compared with 43 percent for Romney. "The bump is actually happening. I know there was some debate whether it would happen... but it's here," said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark, referring to the "bounce" in support that many presidential candidates enjoy after nominating conventions. Obama had leapfrogged Romney in the daily tracking poll on Friday with a lead of 46 percent to 44 percent... 4. The MSM Loves To Give Republicans A Free Pass On Jobs
|
I think many Americans understand that the GOP has not lifted a finger to address jobs during the two years they have controlled the House. Indeed, many folks can see that Republicans are purposely trying to hurt the recovery to the point of voting against proposals they previously supported.
Nonetheless, the MSM still tries to push the narrative that President Obama is at fault while giving obstructionists like Paul Ryan a free pass. |

7. Actually, not many Americans do understand. And its worse than that.

The Republicans have not simply failed to lift a finger. They lifted a fist to smash job creation programs.

9. I Think The Fact That Obama Is Leading Despite Tidal Wave Of Lies and Ads...
|
...is due to the fact that many people do understand. If Republicans were held accountable by the MSM, President Obama and Democrats generally would be winning by a landslide. As things stand, it will be a close race due to the MSM's failure to hold Republicans accountable and the heavy inflow of corporate money to prop up Republicans.

20. I disagree, most people do NOT understand how the rethugs have obstructed progress on jobs.
|
There has been virtually no coverage of the fact that the rethugs have been blocking a strong jobs stimulus proposed by the President a hear ago.. If more people knew that this election would be over.
I think Obama's margin right now is a function of how bad a candidate Romney is. He is simply not likable, while Obama is very likable and folks are not willing to fire him. |

16. 14,000 public school jobs lost in Pa last year
|
because a republican govenor and state house/senate cut the education budget by a billion dollars.
From DC to every republican controlled state in the country, they have absolutely done everything they could to can public sector employees. |

5. despite jobs data
|
Going from losing 750,000 jobs per month to gaining 96,000 per month is bad? And the jobs #s would be much better if the republicans were not working on tanking the economy in order to gain political power. |

6. Yes. Despite jobs data.
|
It takes something like 200,000 jobs growth per month just to keep up with population growth. So 96,000 is disappointing.
Obama's been doing a heck of a lot better than Bush, whose presidency averaged 75,000 jobs per month. But there is more to be done. |

10. Problem is, most presidents DON'T create 200,000 jobs a month...
|
People get caught up in this idea that you can sustain monthly job gains of 200,000 and it just isn't possible.
Especially when the economy is still in a slow recovery. MAYBE at the peak of an economic boom, but even then, it's not unheard of to get a jobs report that is weaker than expected ... in 1996, Clinton's reelection, we actually LOST jobs one month. It happens. 96,000 on its own isn't good - but the trend? It's still positive for Obama. |

15. Unemployment dropped by .02%
|
Unemployment DROPPED and the headline is "despite" the jobs report.
I get the underyling issue of underemployment, people giving up looking for a job, ect. But, this was NOT a BAD jobs report, especially in the context of the jobs reports we have seen for the last four years. It is a concerted effort by the "liberal" media to mitigate the DNC KILLING the RNC by spinning this as a BAD jobs report. It might not be GREAT, it might not even be good. But, it sure is not bad given where we are right now. |

21. That was the best report for an August in the past 6 years.
|
and yet it is labeled as disappointing?
If the republicans would quit trying to tank the economy we would be at least 1 to 3 points better on unemployment #s. Because if those teachers, fireman, cops, and other public sector workers had jobs then they would spend money and that in turn would stimulate the economy which would lead to more jobs being created. As far as the more to be done "thing" it is to make people understand that the middle class is the job creators not the rich because we have to spend our money and they don't. |

28. Banana Republicans and Tea Party Economics
|
Americans are beginning to realize the Party of Debt is mostly the GOP.
Now the GOP offers the solution to the Debt: Tea Party Austerity, more tax cuts, more military spending. Their message to taxpayers: we spent your money. We gave it to Millionaires and Billionaires for tax cuts. We spent it in Iraq. Do you feel the low prices at the pump? Now we're going to pay off the debt by cutting everyone's benefits. We're going to cut Food Stamps, Education, Student Loans, Welfare, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security. You don't need those, do you? But you'll enjoy it because we'll put guns in your home, and surveillance in your bedroom. Don't you feel safe? And we'll drill for gas in your neighborhood. Does your water taste good? Breathing easier? This sure is a winning formula for America, don't you think? |

29. Just wait until the debates.
|
Romney is only close now because America doesn't really know him.
He'll have a harder time hiding behind his multifaceted approach to political pandering. You can be that President Obama will force him to nail down his view. Romney will finally be forced, on national TV before a large audience, to justify his views. It's not going to be pretty. |
