Report: Romney Launches $4.5 Million Ad Buy In Eight Swing States

Source: TPM

As the Democratic convention wraps up Thursday, the Romney campaign is preparing to launch a new round of ad buys worth $4.5 million in eight swing states, according to NBC News.

NBC News pegs his ad spending at roughly $1 million in Florida, Ohio and Virginia; $600,000 in North Carolina and additional funds in Colorado, Iowa, Nevada and New Hampsire.

Two Romney spokespersons declined requests from TPM to confirm or dispute the figures. One said the campaign does not discuss ad buys.

The news comes alongside a report that the Romney campaign and his allies have pulled their ads from the battleground states of Michigan -- the candidate's home state -- and Pennsylvania.

His campaign went dark on television 11 days ago, but today it booked $4.5 million (so far) in TV ads in eight battleground states today, according to NBC News and ad-tracker SMG Delta.

The states seeing the biggest spending in this buy round are Virginia, Ohio, and Florida with about $1 million each.

Also notably, Romney is spending about $600,000 in this buy on North Carolina, a state most analysts see as beginning to trend toward Romney, but close enough that he may have to spend money here.

The other states he will be up in with this buy – Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.

1. Just throwing good money after bad. NH, CO, IA, NV will be next for pull outs.

Didn't see WI on the list - does he think he has it, or is that to be another pull out?

After that, if we can secure OH, doesn't matter about the rest

so, if we turn WI, PA, and MI blue - and add CO, NV and NM and NH - Obama wins without Ohio, Florida, North Carolina or Virginia!

6. YUP, its a chess game, and Mitt can't get his pieces into position

I know that using the chess analogy is risky on DU. Most of those who use it (pro or con) have no idea how chess is actually played.

In this case, Obama has been able to set up defensive positions all over the board, AND he now has strong attack opportunities on the battle ground states. Mitt has to capture almost all of the battlegrounds, and Obama only needs to CAPTURE a couple of them.

Mitt can't defend all of them, and also win them all.

I think Obama will create strong defenses in the states you mention in your subject title, and then he'll really hit OH and VA hard.

Either of those goes and Obama wins before 11pm.

11. Thanks to Ryan's gaffe - Colorado has now reached at 75% probability of turning blue

38 climbs of 14'ers?

Bullshit.

Even the climbers have kept records, like marathoners.

Rmoney/RLyin can waste all their money in Colorado - only Colorado Springs fundies will be voting for them....

15. They'll be winning up here in Grand County too

home to wealthy retirees, some low information people, and more than a few racists. Must be that thin air. But we do have a few liberals like myself and many moderates (like Obama, if they would only open their eyes.) But as a whole,Colorado should turn blue! I've learned to coexist, except for the racists.. no time for them.

12. If the people in his home state won't vote for him,

and the people in the state he governed won't vote for him. That should tell you something about his character.

16. And those of us in Ohio will be wearing out our mute buttons for the TV

And wearing out our shoe leather to make sure the ad buys end up an epic fail.

17. is it my imagination, or is that not very much?
