Clinton: No one could have restored economy to full health in 4 years

Last edited Wed Sep 5, 2012, 11:04 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Source: NBC

Previewing his primetime speech tonight at the Democratic convention, former President Bill Clinton tells NBC's Brian Williams that he will explain why President Obama's economic approach "is right" and will "pay off" if he's re-elected.

Clinton also says in the interview that no president, in four years, could have restored the current economy "to full health" after the financial collapse of 2008.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: Cover of Newsweek, "Why Barack needs Bill." Why do you think Barack needs Bill? What do you have to offer?

BILL CLINTON: I really don't know. I've always been mystified by that. I was honored when he asked me to nominate him. I hope what I can do, because we did have a good economy, because we did have the longest expansion in history, is explain why I think his approach is right and it'll pay off if we renew his contract. Explain why the economy he faced was much weaker and different than the one I faced, so that there's no way any president, no president could have restored it to full health in just four years.

11. Bush and Cheney had 8 years but did most of the damage in one day.

the day of the big false flag attack. That was the beginning of the end. It will take 50 years before the truth even comes out around that one. That led to the illegal invasions, the stripping away of our civil rights, and the destruction of our economy, and our nation. The entire world changed on that one day. And soon after, the pResident's approval rating was over 90%.

12. It takes longer to build something than to destroy it. GOP had 8 years

to destroy it. Heaven knows how long it will take to get us back to a surplus after all the GOP looting.

Finally!

Someone says it!

I'm so over the GOPathetics and Baggers yapping endlessly about why everything isn't roses, now.

How about 'cause it was put into SUCH a mess, by THEM?!? It's going to take years and years and years, if ever, to dig out
of the hell hole that they put us AND the world in.

Thank you Willie for finally stating what should be obvious.

4. Why don't they ask Bill Clinton if he regrets the repeal of Glass-Steagall?

I, for one, would really like to know his thinking on the subject these days. He's doing the commercial for DNC talking about how The Republicans are against banking reform, but no mention of his role in the problem.

We need an honest conversation ... don't we? ...

6. Exactly ...

It's perplexing for me ...

Jon Stewart had Bill Clinton on hawking his new book and did NOT ask him one pointed question.

How can we accuse THEM of being responsible for all our economic woes when WE take none of the responsibility or fail to ask one tough question?

7. don't leave it up to a comedian to do a journalist's job

he's already said "'it's a comedy show. The show before it is a cartoon"...

Jon Stewart is the last person I would be mad at for not asking a pointed question. He's a comedian.

I'm mad when members of the so called "main stream media" don't do their due diligence and that's what they're supposedly charged to do in that profession. The media is supposed to be the watchdog on government, not entertainers. It's nice when they do, but it's an unrealistic expectation.

9. Which is why I thought it might be easier to break the ice on The Comedy Show ...

Jon Stewart is so funny and disarming ... he could make a bit of an joke out of it

"So, ah Mr. President, Glass-Steagall ... ah, how'd that work out? ... any thoughts?" ...

8. Remind people the debt would probably be over 20 trillion

after McCain re-cut the taxes on the wealthy to "pay for" the invasion of Iran ...

10. I believe Clinton is wrong and that it could and should have been done.

Of course that assumes that you dont have a party whos mission statement is to seek out any and all means to defeat a sitting president even if the means is by way of crippling the nations recovery like the Republicans have been doing.
