Rahm Emanuel to seek big-dollar donations funds for Democrats

Source: The Washington Post

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel — a legendary fundraiser and political strategist before he won elected office — has dropped his honorary chairmanship of the Obama campaign to help raise big-dollar contributions, so that Democrats can compete with what is emerging as a clear GOP fundraising advantage this election cycle, campaign and fundraising individuals said.

Emanuel started working with the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA in the last two weeks. News of the switch began circulating through Charlotte on Tuesday, as the Democratic National Convention was getting underway.

Emanuel said in a brief interview early Wednesday that he was “helping, not running” the super PAC. “It’s that simple. I’m going to help where I can to get the president re-elected. And this is where I can probably be most helpful in the final days.”

Democratic strategists said they have noted some reluctance among well-heeled Democrats to contribute big-dollar checks to super PACs, in part because Democrats, including Obama, were originally wary of these new entities. The move by Obama’s first White House chief of staff could change their mind-set, said David Rosen, a Democratic consultant who is at the convention and attending private sessions for donors and campaign insiders.

1. I object to the snide suggestion of the non-American reporter

that "if ONLY" Obama could do what Rahm is doing....

Obama isn't surrounded by quite so many Democrats.

That said, Rahm has some serious focus. People may hate him, but a day will come when they thank him.

2. that video deserves it's own thread. that is why i happen to like my mayor.

this is how you talk back to a rightwing interviewer, and shift the debate onto the right questions. and rahm has all the right answers to all the right questions in this video.
i happen to believe that this is who he is, and that what he is saying here is the truth. he is a lot of things, but rarely a liar. not never, but generally speaking, he is in your face honest.

that's my city. that's my mayor.
and those folks with the fat bank accounts should just save the wear and tear on their arms, and write the check before he comes to give them the twist.

3. I'm just glad he's fixing the El infrastructure

I ride the Green or Pink lines over the Chicago River, and frankly, some days I hold on for dear life, knowing how rusted out and old those support beams and tracks are.

Mayor Daley had 21 years to start rebuilding the city's infrastructure, and I'm afraid he really let it go to pot. The pretty trees and flowers downtown are fine, but if you're not a tourist, you know how everything else has been neglected.

4. As recipients of the corporate largesse to whom do you think the democrats will pledge their

allegiance? It most certainly won't be the working class.

8. Whose side are you on, why post that here? Go away. The vidio shows quite nicely

the Democrats intention to create "working class" jobs. The nation should look to Chicago and see what progressive Democratic policies can do. Austerity does not create jobs. Austerity only creates poor people.
