The Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of The (Washington) Times, dies at 92
Source: Washington Times
The Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, the leader of the Unification Church and founder of The Washington Times, died early Monday morning in South Korea. He was 92. He passed away just before 2 a.m. local time (12:54 p.m. EDT Sunday) from complications of pneumonia, surrounded by family, friends and followers, according to Unification Church leaders. A comment was not immediately available from Unification Church International President Hyung Jin Moon, his youngest son and appointed successor of the religious movement. However, in the weeks prior to the passing, Rev. Joon Ho Seuk, the church’s international vice president, said that members worldwide had been conducting prayer vigils and fasting for Rev. Moon’s health. Read more: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/sep/2/rev-sun-myung-moon-founder-times-dies-92/

... Nearly 90 other religious, civil, political and educational 'ambassadors for peace' were cited for their regional efforts. Members of Congress assisting at the event included Sen. Mark Dayton, Minnesota Democrat, Reps. Roscoe G. Bartlett of Maryland, Christopher B. Cannon of Utah and Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania, all Republicans, and Democratic Reps. Danny K. Davis of Illinois, Harold E Ford Jr. of Tennessee and Sanford D. Bishop Jr. of Georgia."

95. The book was even better.
|
The merry band of Cold Warriors, like Charlie, never allow themselves to be troubled by the human suffering they were causing. They were way too busy jetting around the world, getting laid, having a great time blowing shit up while serving Uncle Sam. Charlie was a nationalist and a party animal.
As for the Taliban, they're not nationalists, exactly - they were an Army of G-d, tribal people who survived since the dawn of time by killing outsiders led by fundamentalist Wahabi fundamentalists hell-bent upon annihilating all vestiges of secular western influence and socialism inside Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Arab countries, and the rest of the world. G-d help the women in Kabul who used cosmetics. If you owned a beauty parlor, you were dead. What an irony - Charlie was so much a part of the culture the Taliban saw as an "abomination against G-d." Great movie, even better book. Lots of good stuff in there, also, about Agency culture. You should pick it up. |

Like the insanely homophobic Jeff Kuhner, the fundie Christian Marybeth Hicks, the has-been rocker TED NUGENT (yep he really has a job writing for this fishwrap)...ugh
An example of how stupid Kuhner is, ranting as a guest host of "The Savage Nation" about a neighbor he said lived two years off unemployment benefits (I posted this to DU in March): Kuhner also appears on this Christian radio show of Janet Mefferd all the time ranting about "OMG the liberals are destroying our Christian heritage" etc. He has also compared gays to Communists and terrorists. Marybeth Hicks spends her column howling about the liberal secular invasion of our culture and even wrote an entire BOOK last year or two years ago Don't Let the Kids Drink the Kool-Aid: Confronting the Left's Assault on Our Families, Faith, and Freedom! On her website she promoted her book: "America’s children are listening to a choir that sings only one note: Leftism. By undermining traditional beliefs about family, faith and freedom, and by replacing those beliefs with a value system of moral relativism and secular progressive collectivism, the radical Left is succeeding in molding the first generation of American socialists." (Those right wingers sure love to listen to themselves talking about freedom all the time right? Because I'm sure that religious authoritarianism=freedom. In other news, freedom is slavery and war is peace.) That's the Sun Myung Moon legacy right there (btw, is Sun Myung Moon a legitimately Korean name, given the pairings of "Sun" and "Moon"??) |

FOX could not have jumped so quickly onto the political battlefield without Moon's efforts to control and promote the GOP talking points in the decades prior. Many of FOX's fascist mouthpieces came through Moon's RW media machine. Rev Moon was ONE STEP removed from Hitler, and I mean LITERALLY.

That display of Moon's Washington connections pales in comparison to the now notorious 2004 incident in which Sun Myung Moon was "coronated" as "the messiah", in the Dirksen US federal office building, during a ceremony attended by as many as ( claims the Unification Church ) 81 members of the US Congress.

And may the fact that he, too, has to take a dirt nap like everybody else get through to the people he's scammed for decades that he was no better or worse than they are. plenty of infighting over control. Many, many lawsuits claiming mis-appropriations of church funds. The church splitting into different factions and *poof* the mooney-times goes up in smoke and Murdoch buys it at a fire sale.

Wes Pruden and the boys down there may want to up date their resumes soon, as the gravy train may be over if Moon's kids decide they'd rather have the money for themselves. |

Still makes him look bad, but that's his own fault, not the media's. THough the writer of this post tries to blame the media for that.
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2012/09/117_118901.html The Korean newspapers are taking mostly nice about him, mostly... |
