Nielsen Poll: Romney Falls Short of McCain in '08 By: Brian Lowry Published: Fri, August 31, 2012, 3:21 PM Strictly from a ratings standpoint, Mitt Romney's address to the Republican National Convention didn't measure up to John McCain's nomination acceptance speech in 2008, based on data from Nielsen Media. Romney's speech adveraged 30.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen, easily the highest-rated night of the convention. Yet that fell about 22% short of the nearly 39 million who tuned in for McCain across nine networks four years ago. Of course, that also means those people missed Clint Eastwood's "exceedingly strange" performance, so hey, their loss. There are several ways to parse these numbers, and as the challenger, one can argue Romney has more to gain from all the free exposure provided by the conventions. 2. 30.3 million viewers?
|
That's not even the 10 percent of the population ... you know, the population which the Repugs claim are overwhelmingly supportive of what Repugs stand for ...

4. NOBODY "missed" Clint Eastwood
|
EVERYBODY watched clips of that on youtube -- but a lot of people missed Mitt's "acceptance" of what he has been buying for 7 years so it's all good!

7. I'm really reluctant to comment on the RNC's viewing numbers til we see the DNC's.

Last edited Sun Sep 2, 2012, 09:54 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I don't remember how much was televised on the networks last time, since I have stopped watching it on network myself---but one hour a night seems awfully short and stupid and not worth the time. It's not like the lead in shows were great and had so many viewers, from what I heard (from Rachel Maddow maybe? I think she mentioned the lead in shows?)....
no one wants to see the snore-a-rama that is the Republican party but I'm just cautious about the DNC numbers, esp with football and the MTV awards. If our views are higher than those of the GOP I will be more than happy to brag about that for weeks though!! |
