Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon Unite Artists Against Fracking in New York

Source: Rolling Stone

During the early 1970s, before Sean Lennon was born to John and Yoko, the couple bought a farm in Delaware County, three hours from their home at the Dakota in New York City. As a toddler, Sean remembers one of the goats chewing on his blue jeans. Today, that property near the Catskills belongs to him and sits within potential drilling territory above the sprawling Marcellus Shale, where Governor Andrew Cuomo might reverse the state's ban on hydraulic fracturing known as "fracking" for natural gas.

Ono and Lennon, who founded Artists Against Fracking in July, gathered the coalition on Wednesday at New York's Paley Center for Media and called on Governor Cuomo to discuss developing renewable alternatives to wells, some of which have been linked to leaking methane into the groundwater.

"I feel like the end result of wanting to make profits through fossil fuels and drilling for oil and gas is that you overlook individual people and small-town farmers," Lennon told Rolling Stone after the event. "That's what's happening in New York right now: they're promising that we won't drill near the reservoirs that supply Manhattan, but that basically means that places that are less populated are somehow less important."

"New York City's going to suffer. They're not thinking about that," Ono added. "The thing is, the governor is intelligent enough to know that he doesn't want to side with very unpopular people who are doing terrible things for money."

1. Yoko is ageless. Glad to see her getting involved.

Sean sure looks like his dad in these pics. I hope this marks the beginning of him finding his own passions in life.

2. Terrible how John was shot in the back five times by a legal gun owner.

Good for them and their efforts.

3. Yoko Ono ...the worst singer in the world.

I thought Ozzy's daughter was bad but Yoko Ono is by far the worst I have ever heard. It's a farce that she is even considered to be a singer. On the other hand if she were to sing into a fracking pipe it may work better than all the chemicals they normally use to do the job.

5. I agree, but you have to understand that she does performance art, not singing.

They are very different things, with differing goals, the only performance artist that comes to mind as happening to also be a good singer in my mind would be Laurie Anderson - even then her goal was not to be a great singer but rather to create a performance that was art in and of itself regardless of the singing as judged by professional singers.

I do get your point however, I just know what her true goals are and can judge her well in that light.

8. Well, as long as we're talking about women married to the Beatles...

One couldn't sing as poorly as Linda McCartney, right?

See how stupid this is? You insult totally took the point in another direction.

Point being... Hydrollic Fracturing is an inconclusively tested earth fuck, and this song, with Ono (who was great in the Plastic Ono Band, BTW) is perfect... just like Wings was perfect with the lovely Linda.

Don't fuck with the Beatles wives and don't take for granted how great this song is.

But, that would be in line with what I think she'd do.

You might have a better response with her, no?

Thanks!

20. "Dou itashimashite"

in Japanese means "you are welcome!". I was wondering myself whether or not she is a Democrat or a Independent, or whether or not she could even vote. It would be interesting to know where she stands politically.

15. super, love the song & love the message, glad they are getting involved in the anti-frack movement

Fracking is one of the worst things people can do to the earth and water.

Sean looks so much like John so sorry he could not grow up with his dad

Yoko looks great, an ageless beauty.
