A student was shot Monday morning on the first day of school at a Baltimore County high school, county police said.

The student was flown to a hospital from Perry Hall High School in Maryland. Details of the student’s condition were not immediately released.

A suspect was in custody, according to NBCWashington.com. WJZ-TV showed video of a shirtless male with his hands behind his back being put into a police cruiser.

The school was evacuated, with students being escorted to the nearby Perry Hall Shopping Center.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan was at the school on Wednesday to address 800 Baltimore County English teachers, according to The Baltimore Sun. He told the group teachers should earn more and there should be more focus on educating the whole child.

Notice he's going to jail. And if his lawyer tries to use the 2nd amendment to get him off he will be laughed out of court.

He's 15.... not 5. One can get a hunting license younger than that. Why wouldn't he be? Especially if he's been hearing all the gun nut crap his whole life. He's grown up thinking a gun is just another kitchen appliance.

He's grown up thinking a gun is just another kitchen appliance.

Or maybe he's partly grown up, thinking that real people solve their problems with violence because he's been bombarded by images of it all his life.

I hope he gets it.

BTW, a minor can't own a firearm in Maryland without written parental consent.

That's an equally terrifying option IMHO.

Because without it he would not technically be a "gun owner." IMO there is no question that the boy is troubled. I'd say I was pretty clear on the difference between right and wrong by about age six.

but Perry Hall is a suburb. Could you imagine the reaction among some people if this was an inner city, majority black school? Fox Boobs and hate radio would be serving extra juicy red meat to their bigoted audience. Remember when Walk Wimp Bawl labeled an incident of a black child beating up a white child in a school bus a sign of Obama's America? Yeesh. But it seems this shooting was a Columbine type, suburban angst- fueled event. Disappointed FNC/radio producers and drudge now decide to break out plan B: blame video games, Hollywood, and Facebook. Or even crazier, dig up that the shooter's parents are registered Democrats thus are plotting with Obama to set up a mass gun seizure.

End of rant. Seriously, schools need to promote respect and peaceful conflict resolution more and put bullies to shame. Too much violence, roo many victims already.

BTW here is an EXCELLENT Young Turks segment breaking down how Fox Boobs blows the dog whistle to deliver bigotry:

Baltimore's bad inner city areas are as bad as any in the country, but that school isn't near them.

They simply don't care what mayhem their deadly little fetish wreaks across society; they just don't.

That all-important Phallic Replacement Device is going to be held on to, regardless of the bloodshed. And justified with a phony interpretation of the 2nd amendment, to boot.

When the Aurora massacre happened, someone on a DU thread recommended reading the book: "Going Postal: From Reagan's Workplaces to Clinton's Columbine", by Mark Ames.

I borrowed it from our public library. I think Mr. Ames described the problems accurately. The book really gave me the chills. I would have to over-simplify to try to explain. Please, read the book.

Seems to be the new thing in schools.

We need to get the guns off the streets. Turn 'em in, melt 'em down.

If the other students and the teachers had all been armed they could have prevented this. (Sarcasm intended) Ms Bigmack
