By now anyone running a campaign should know they cannot use an artists music without permission and imo there should be a severe crackdown on this continued snubbing of copyright.

Has any democratic candidate ever been warned to stop using a song?

By election time, all Mitt/Paul will have is Cat Scratch Fever, a perfect campaign song for them.

He could make himself heard when they play his song and dare them to escort him noisily out. He could claim he was protecting his intellectual property, something Republicans would respect if Dee stood for "Disney".

Romney/Ryan should just stick to Hank Williams and Pat Boone. That sums up their base anyway.

Why don't they use any *cough* music *cough* from Ted Nugent or Hank williams Jr.? I'm sure they would be more than happy to lent their...........uh.........talents?

That would be more honest in reflecting those Republican "values" that they are always talking about.

if ryan and his cadre' of morons paid for the song legally via ASCAP, there really isn't much Snider can do.

However, if ryan, like most repukes out there, took the song and started playing it without permission, well then, Snider has a case.

That wording makes it sound like it's happening across parties.
But just as in the article, the only examples of this occurring that I can recall are bands asking Republicans to stop using their songs.
If there are examples of Democrats being asked to stop using a song, I don't think there are many.

It's a matter of shared values and views of policy.

I'm not sure whether playing "Cat Scratch Fever" would be very appropriate though. Here is Wiki's description of the song:

The song is about a man chronicling his long history of promiscuous sex, and lamenting his inability to control himself or the women he has sex with, and vice versa. The main reason for his lament is that his active sexual lifestyle results in him getting "Cat Scratch Fever"; however, the narrator does gleefully and explicitly (if somewhat resignedly) describe the pleasure he gets from the sex. The song makes heavy use of cats and their claws scratching things and people as sexual metaphors. The meaning of "Cat Scratch Fever" is more or less left open to the listener's interpretation, but general consensus is that the line refers to the sexually transmitted disease syphilis, as "cat scratch fever" was a common street slang term for the disease in the '70s and the song mentions " to the doctor" and that "you know you got it when/you goin' insane/It makes a grown man cry"; syphilis has been known to cause insanity.
