Mitt Romney To Donors: I Would Explain My Energy Plan, But Reporters Are Here
WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney started to lay out his energy plan at a Tuesday event, but because there were reporters in the room, he decided against doing so.
During a Houston fundraiser, Romney told a room of about 125 donors that he planned to unveil his comprehensive energy plan this week. He said his proposal will specifically relate to fossil-based fuels. But then, he said no more.
"I know that we have members of the media here right now, so Im not going to go through that in great detail," Romney said, according to a pool report from the event.

"I've got a SECRET!!!" seems to be the trend in doomed GOP presidential campaigns. One more confirmation of my growing belief that the entire GOP is based on the politics of Middle School.
Please, comparing Republican politics to middle schoolers is unfair to the kids. I used to teach middle school, and at least they have the excuse of being bundles of hormones. The Republicans, however...

(12,806 posts)I mean really, Mitt -- are you really just running to be the president of your donors? America is a democracy, or a democratic republic; who wants a president that's only beholden to a few rich people?
It's clear you don't trust the American people. Don't trust 'em with your financial background, don't trust 'em with your policy ideas... What, are you the Great Oz hiding behind your curtain?
And didn't you at some point criticize Obama as being un-transparent?

(10,952 posts)being a close race. People should be required to take a sanity/intelligence test before they are allowed to vote. There is absolutely no doubt that the race has to be the primary issue in this election because why on earth would anybody agree to vote for any candidate who refuses to talk about the DETAILS of what he/she wants to do once he/she becomes President. All Romney is saying effectively is - I am the other guy just go ahead and trust me because I'll tell you the details after you vote for me. It is totally insane.
My mantra these days is that I am so grateful to be as old as I am. I held my breath to reach the age of 55 before the Republicans had a chance to blow up medicare and I still cross my fingers that I will squeak in with some relatively decent level of coverage when I retire. You look at the Republican platform and I am so glad that I don't have any children, particularly daughters. The Republicans are driving us into the direction of becoming the type of government/country that most of our ancestors fled from when they came here.

(11,085 posts)That might be his best plan yet, considering how many boneheaded things he and his staffers and fellow Republicans have said. He won't be able to carry it through, though. The voices in his head urging him to say something stupid just won't be denied.

(253 posts)He's got a scheduled roll out of his energy plan on Thursday. No one expects any surprises. This doesn't seem like the big deal that HuffPo is making it. If you don't want it public before the embargo's up, don't talk about it in front of journalists.
He's done a lot of stupid and mean things, but I don't think this qualifies.

Remember, in Romney speak, corporations are people. Corporations are the same as individuals. So we can assume that Romney really meant:
"I have a different approach I think, generally, to the role of government as it relates to energy, as well as other aspects of our economy. And it flows from a growing perspective I have throughout my life and, frankly, during this campaign about the power of [CORPORATIONS] as opposed to government, [CORPORATIONS] pursuing their interests and dreams."
The bracketed words are my translation.

(8,543 posts)Um... what bracketed words?
If you are trying to use square brackets (i.e. [ ] ) then you have a problem because those characters are being used as the way to signal the DU3 software that it should interpret the contents as html, therefore the software will not display any text contained by square brackets.
If you still want to use square brackets, you can use [ for the opening bracket - just be aware that previewing it will turn it into an actual square bracket and you will have the same problem if you hit the Post my reply! button from there. You need to go back to the pre-previewed page with your browser and post from the text that still has the [ html entities for the opening brackets.
