Todd Akin, in an interview with Sean Hannity on his radio show that's still going on, said despite some media reports, he is not actually leaving the Missouri race.

"I was told that there is a decision has to be made by 5 o'clock tomorow but I was calling you and letting you know that I'm announcing today that we're (staying) in," Akin told Hannity.

Asked if he'd thought about the consequences of staying in, the congressman said he has.

"I certainly have, and I've just run a very tough primary race in the state of Missouri," he said, "I stuck to basically our conservative principles ... when people make a mistake and they are honest about it and say it was a mistake, I (think) they move on."

"I still believe I'm in the strongest position to (win)," he said.

3. You make a good, but worrisome, point

There could be a backlash against the backlash.

The RWers could end up rallying behind him and give him the win after all is said and done.

5. I have this image of the Missouri GOP doing Akin's withdrawal press conference tomorrow

And Akin getting up in the middle of it to belt out "And I Am Tellin' You I'm Not Goin'! " from DREAMGIRLS.

(It would be even more effective if he was wearing Jennifer Holliday's old gown at the time, but you can't have everything...)

9. Aikin knows that winning the seat is necessary for Republicans to win control of the Senate...

If he stays, Republicans will support him. He will use opposition to his comment as anti-Christian persecution and raise a bunch of money.

Hopefully, he will be made to eat those words and will be O'Donnnell'd.

13. Why would GOP voters abandon him? It seems he is appealing to his constituency with his

rape statement. Missouri will go for Romney and when voters push the R button, they will get Akin too.

21. Hard-core repukes won't, but indies might

in places like St. Louis County (separate from St. Louis City, which is true Blue), which tend to hold the balance of power in MO.

14. By trying to force him out

the GOP are almost questioning the more extreme elements
of their own party platform

and of Ryan's links to Akin

It's going to reverb for the next 90 days

You couldn't make this stuff up if you thought all day

15. I agree completely.

This is going to create tension between the religious element and everyone else in their party.

16. Republican's Learn Nothing From Their Own History

In 1991 TX Oil millionaire Clayton Williams was expected to win the TX Governorship against Ann Richards, he was up in the polls and was a sure thing until he opened his big mouth. His comment was about rape, he said, "Rape is like when it rains, there is nothing you can do about it so you should just sit back and enjoy it". This comment cost him the election and ended his political career while Ann Richards became a Democratic Star.

19. Go Todd. I think he should be the key note speaker at the Republican convention. You know to get

those conservative principles out there. You know small government, no taxation and special secretions.
