MSNBC's Alex Wagner: Mitt Romney Has "Castrated" Paul Ryan

Source: Real Clear Politics

Bill Maher: But somehow, during the debt ceiling debate, they got hooked in to this idea, no it's really about government is too bloated, we have to reduce -- we do in the long run -- the deficit. I wonder if having Ryan out there is going to lure back into that trap again.

Alex Wagner, MSNBC: Not if they keep kneecapping him like they have. I mean, Ryan was chosen ostensibly because he was going to be the policy guy and we were going to have this big, fundamental debate about the issues that matter.

In the week that we've seen with Ryan as the VP, Mitt Romney has sort of castrated him in the way that he can no longer talk about any specific policy, because as we know, Mitt Romney's plank is to not say anything substantive about anything at all, including what he bought at the hardware store. Like, he won't say he bought a hammer and a bucket.

She's right.

Video from last night's Real Time at the link -- and it includes not just Maher and Wagner's comments, but Mark Cuban railing that Romney is the "invisible candidate" who "never comes out and takes a stance."

And when she seems the reasonable one, you know you're tweaking just a scoche.

19. Was it Rehan Salam?

He is just fucking annoying, and so sure of himself even when time and again he is proven wrong. Maher has him on all the time, just for comic relief, I'm beginning to believe.

My cable was out all Friday night so I missed it. Looking forward to seeing it On Demand.

27. Yes and he was SOOOO annoying - hijacking every conversation

With the usual blah blah blah subject change RW tactic -- usually I like a counterpoint but that guy would NOT SHUT UP and let anybody talk, he constantly interrupts, I know it's hard to find wingnuts to go on that show but come on Bill cross this one off the list he is an enemy to conversation.

29. Reihan Salam's parents were born in Pakistan

and he thus has some brainwashed-from-childhood Pakistani sympathies to support repukes in a knee-jerk fashion.

4. agree, romney is like a ghost.

He's even starting to look ghostly as time goes on.

and what is it with this picture? The jocularity appears fake.
Had something funny just happened?

10. Good observations. He is hollow like a ghost. He is also clever,

calculated and probably quite aware how transparent he appears. It is a life strategy that has not failed him yet.

Someone must have told him what he just said because he pounced on Ryan and corrected himself. I'm paraphrasing but he said something about being known for saying stupid shit, so everyone threw their heads back and laughed too hard.

edited to add more.

7. You've got to love those republican "family values"...

Newt Nuder Nudist! And now sterilization of the bad apple for hire Paul ruin. Paul Ruin can't help it he's a liar and a former BushCo suck-up, anymore than Mitt can help that, underneath his calm like exterior, he's in fact a seating mass of hostility, hatred and "supernatural" fundie undies.

8. Oysters

In my part of the country we would say that Romney had Ryan over for a mountain oyster fry.

Maybe in Ryan's part of the world those would be cheese fries.

That came from a post showing a Facebook page that listed all of the things Romney was refusing to disclose that went on to concluded that Romney was the "5th Amendment candidate". Priceless.

24. It's probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in

An old quote from LBJ, but it was probably Romney's thinking in this case as well.

And as for economics as a theme of the campaign, another LBJ quote may apply:

"Making a speech on economics is a lot like pissing down your leg. It seems hot to you, but it never does to anyone else."
