|
I didn't read that in the article linked.
On one hand, we have a problem with gang violence, which sometimes spills over to harm those outside that milieu, be they law enforcement or bystanders. This fills that bill. On the other hand, we have Amoklauf shootings, where a mentally ill person (typically male) shoots family or strangers, then often themselves. |

that the well-regulated militia was intended to operate in the place of a standing army? Article 1, Section 8:
Congress shall have the power.... <snip> To raise and support Armies, but no appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than 2 years; <snip> To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions Oddly, there isn't a word in there about citizens defending themselves from the government; just the opposite. Hmmm |

I fear the political climate is jacking up all Kinds of mentally unstable but generally manageable behavior into the red zone. Though if the two sides could come together for five minutes and say to people "We are passionate about our positions but want you to hang tight while we engage in a process as old as this country, and one that, though nerve wracking, makes it great," it might help a little. But they themselves seem to feel that this is war, and in so many ways we are the collateral damage. I expect this will go on until November and if Obama wins will rise a bit until people realize he's not The Enemy and the world will not end. And in fact will get better if we can take the Congress and stop the obstructionists. Til then, be careful out there.

53. Even Scalia himself!!!!7/2012 interview......
|
ustice Antonin Scalia, one of the Supreme Court's most vocal and conservative justices, said on Sunday that the Second Amendment leaves room for U.S. legislatures to regulate guns, including menacing hand-held weapons.
"It will have to be decided in future cases," Scalia said on Fox News Sunday. But there were legal precedents from the days of the Founding Fathers that banned frightening weapons which a constitutional originalist like himself must recognize. There were also "locational limitations" on where weapons could be carried, the justice noted. When asked if that kind of precedent would apply to assault weapons, or 100-round ammunition magazines like those used in the recent Colorado movie theater massacre, Scalia declined to speculate. "We'll see," he said. '"It will have to be decided." As an originalist scholar, Scalia looks to the text of the Constitution—which confirms the right to bear arms—but also the context of 18th-century history. “They had some limitations on the nature of arms that could be borne," he told host Chris Wallace. http://www.nationaljournal.com/scalia-guns-may-be-regulated-20120729 |

|
Why don’t we outlaw criminals? I am willing to bet that the police were not killed by law-abiding citizens, but rather by criminals who have had many, many run-ins with the law.
If you really want to stop the killing, then make possession of a gun during a crime an automatic ten year sentence. And mere possession of a gun by a felon is also a ten year sentence. Of course, in order to make room for all the gun tooting criminals, we will have to legalize drug use and release all the prisoners in for non-violent drug charges. Mmmm, gun tooting criminals behind bars, joint toking Granma back at home, looks like a win/win to me. Macoy |
