Obama slams Romney, Ryan tax plans as ‘trickle-down snake oil’
By Amie Parnes - 08/15/12 03:23 PM ET

President Obama on Wednesday slammed opponent Mitt Romney and his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) for trying to sell a tax plan, which he dubbed “trickle-down snake oil.”

Addressing a crowd at a campaign event in Iowa on his final day of a three-day bus tour through the state, Obama elevated his rhetoric on his opponents’ tax plan, shifting slightly from the “trickle-down fairy dust” he called it a day earlier.

“They have tried to sell this trickle-down snake oil before,” Obama said at the outdoor event in Dubuque, where he was alongside first lady Michelle Obama in a rare joint appearance. “It didn’t work then; it won’t work now.”

Obama Distends Internal Organs of Romney & Ryan On Medicare

POTUS: Here's what you need to know. I have strengthened Medicare. I have made reforms that have saved Millions of Seniors, Hundreds of Dollars on their Prescription Drugs. (Crowd Roars with Applause) I proposed reforms that will Save Medicare Money by getting rid of wasteful spending in the Medicare system. Reforms that will not touch your benefits, not by a dime.

Mr. Romney and his running mate have a very different plan. They want to turn Medicare into a voucher program. (Crowd Boos) That means that seniors would no longer have the guarantee of Medicare, they'd have a voucher to buy private insurance. And because the voucher wouldn't keep up with costs the plan authored by Mr. Romney's running mate, Congressman Ryan, would force seniors to pay another $6,400 per year that I assume they don't have.

My plan has already extended the life of Medicare by nearly a decade. My plan has brought down the cost of Medicare by cracking down on Fraud and Waste and Subsidies to Insurance Companies, their plan makes Seniors pay more so they can give another tax cut to Millionaires and Billionaires. That's the difference between our plans on Medicare, that's the choice in this election and that's why I'm running for a second term as President of the United States of America.

1. Kick 'em when he's up, Kick 'em when he's down

Oh wait -- i guess he hasn't been "up" yet, come to think of it.

Just down and falling... slowly... steadily...

4. That's it! Romney reminds me of a snake oil salesman

hawking his fake patent medicine from town to town. Ryan is his accomplice working the crowd. I can see them now counting their ill gotten gains after the show is over. Interesting analogy the President sets forth. Think it will work quite nicely.

5. Apt description

In a country with a better educated electorate these snake oil salesmen would have been tarred, feathered and run out on a rail long ago instead of being allowed to fleece us for 3 decades.
