Omaha Public Power District officials say they have a target date of Dec. 1 to begin the start-up process at the idled Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station.
On that date, the district hopes to heat up the reactor at the facility, located 20 miles north of Omaha, OPPD's vice president for nuclear, David Bannister, told board members in a committee meeting Tuesday morning.
Then, inspectors with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would check out the plant's operations before giving it the go-ahead for an official restart.
The plant has been idled since April 2011 because of concerns over Missouri River flooding and a series of safety violations, including an electrical failure during a 2010 test.
