Obama: Ryan is GOP 'ideological leader'

Source: USA Today

In his first public comments on the new Republican vice presidential candidate, President Obama today described Paul Ryan as the "ideological leader" of the Republican Party.

Obama told donors in Chicago that Ryan is "a decent man" and "an articulate spokesman" for the vision of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, "but it's a vision I fundamentally disagree with."

¬snip¬

The president cited Ryan after criticizing what he called "top down" approach to economics, saying it is "central to Governor Romney and it is central to his running mate."

He added:

"Just yesterday, my opponent chose his running mate, the ideological leader of Republicans in Congress -- Mr Paul Ryan. I want to congratulate Mr Ryan. I know him, I welcome him to the race.

And doesn't Congress come back for a short session after Labor Day and need to resolve a couple of major bills. It will be interesting to see who is now calling the shots in the House, Boehner, Cantor or Ryan and the back and forth with President Obama.

If the tea party nuts stay as crazy as they've been, anything they do or say can be treated as if Romney said it thanks to Ryan's tight connection to that group.

His campaigning has been extremely sharp so far, now this.

It's the fight of his life and he is more than up to it.

4. Why do I keep thinking that this is exactly what he wanted to run on?

I don't know, maybe I am just too excited about what that whole conversation is going to look like. Just seems to me that this handed the President exactly what he needed to be reelected - a chance to showcase the (R) obstructionism in Congress and their below dismal approval numbers for it. Like the debt ceiling hike redux - but this time, on OUR terms.

because:

"Picking Ryan Wasn't Bold; It Was Insane" by booman..

<snippet>

"1. It forced Romney to try and fail to distance himself from Paul Ryan's budget plan. Romney now says he would have signed Ryan's budget, and he therefore owns a budget plan so unpopular that people don't even believe it was actually proposed.

2. It locked Romney in to a plan that raises taxes on lower middle class folks while effectively zeroing out his own taxes.

3. It locked Romney into a program that voucherizes Medicare, and twins him with a candidate who wants to privatize Social Security."."

Much More..

Great, concise job. Too many out there are way too wordy. I like these lists alot - more "political junkie" oriented than "explaining who Paul Ryan is" oriented.

Thanks for the link!

Edit - need to add these here. Great points...

5. It saved the Obama administration the cost and difficulty of tying Paul Ryan and the House Republicans to Mitt Romney.

-snip-

If we assume that we are talking about voters who are leaning Republican because they don't like paying taxes that are then spent on the truly poor, you could hardly do worse than to propose raising their taxes, slashing their earned benefits, and giving all the money to the rich rather than using it to aggressively pay down the deficit.

The 1% Dictator-types just want to wag a finger at the rest of us and then toss down a few crumbs.

Me thinks Herman and Eddie Jr. Munster, want us to only eat cake.
