Obama's lead over Romney grows despite voters' pessimism

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the future but voters do not seem to be holding it against Democratic President Barack Obama, who slightly expanded his lead over Republican rival Mitt Romney this month, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll says.

Three months before the November 6 presidential election, nearly two-thirds of Americans think the country is moving in the wrong direction. Only 31 percent say it is moving in the right direction - the lowest number since December 2011.

But Obama's lead over Romney among registered voters was 49 percent to 42 percent, up slightly from the 6-point advantage the president held a month earlier over the former Massachusetts governor.

The results of the monthly poll - in which a majority of voters agreed that the economy is the most important problem facing the United States - suggest that the Obama campaign's efforts to paint Romney as being out of touch with the concerns of middle-class Americans could be preventing the Republican from gaining momentum in the race.

The poll also found that registered voters consider Obama stronger than Romney on jobs and the economy (46 to 44 percent), and on tax matters (49 to 38 percent).

1. Simple way to redirect USA's direction...don't vote for any Republican...they got us here!

and they are trying to reinstate all the policies that caused the Great Recession.

2. As it should be...

..."Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the future but voters do not seem to be holding it against Democratic President Barack Obama..."

Perhaps it is sinking in with a few more of the folks that it really was the GOP and uncle Dick that got us into this mess, and that the Obama administration policies are actually improving their lot in life, even if slowly.

4. 'even if slowly' due to repug intransigence in House/Senate.

Really simple, and must be made clear, early and often. Unfortunately, POTUS doesn't like to point fingers and complain; others must do it for him, most of the time.

6. Don't Get Complacent, Though!

I don't trust ANY of the polls, and I'm not letting up, in capaigning for the President!!!

I think the Repubs and right-wingers are definitely much more in favor of someone OTHER than Obama, rather than Romney for President - so I have a feeling it's going to be a very close, tight election...

Keep up the good work all!

7. Consumer confidence took a jump in July! The biggest jump in new jobs in four years..

LOVE how the media frames their bullshit stories. Where is the part about the employers adding more jobs for the first time since four years ago??? What? Buried on a page of a regional news site??? Certainly not in these articles.
