Mitt Romney’s poll numbers at standstill, Washington Post-ABC News poll finds

Source: Washington Post

Although 40 percent of voters now say they hold a favorable opinion of the former Massachusetts governor — virtually unchanged from May — those holding negative views of him ticked higher in the new survey, from 45 percent to 49 percent.

Meanwhile, President Obama remained in positive territory on that measure, with 53 percent of voters reporting favorable opinions of him. Only 43 percent say they feel unfavorably toward him.

Polls have generally shown a tight contest despite Obama’s consistent edge in popularity.

But a Post survey concluded just as Romney was finishing the GOP primaries showed him gaining ground on the president. His favorability ranking rose to a career high of 41 percent, while for the first time he matched Obama among detractors, with 45 percent viewing each unfavorably.

1. It's comical how the MSM will twist a story into incomprehension to keep those ad $$$ rolling in.

15. MSM or Porn Sites- not much difference

Obviously MSM believes they have to create as many attention grabbing headlines as possible to sell their news and make money, but today's media has went off the plausability cliff and hgave turned so many of us off with their lack of concern for accuracy or believability or even relevance.
I recognize that they have a hard job trying to create a horse race between a stiff unfeeling GOP candidate that with more knoiwledge becomes roundly despised as an enemy of the people and totally unpatriotic and his opponent, a charismatic leader who because of a remarkable childhood and early work in the organizing movement connects well with people and convinces them he is on their side because he is. But please tone down all the bull, MSM. We need no more spin. Leave that to party operatives. Try becoming journalists. People deserve the truth not just excitement and stimulation. They can get that free from the porn sites.

2. I hope the billionaire pricks have finally hit the law of diminishing returns

wherein the more money they throw at the election, the less that money will buy for them in terms of votes. At some point, as the adverts get louder, more intrusive, more frequent, and crazier, there might even be some blowback.

4. Romney has an absolute onslaught of ads coming after the convention

Be prepared, and give often. It's going to be a brutal last push, and every 1% GOPer is going to be throwing millions at the PACs to avoid the sunsetting of the Bush Tax Cuts.

Make no mistake, even with Romney's current cash advantage and huge SuperPAC arsenal, you haven't seen anything yet from these fuckers. They're going to throw everything at the middle, Pickett's Charge, hundreds of millions blanketing every minutes of available airtime.

Remember, Romney was losing big to Santorum in Michigan before he stomped Santorum out with a veritable deluge of negative ads. He was on the verge of collapse in Florida before throwing millions upon millions at the Newt Gingrich problem and crushing him there. Romney will throw untold hundreds of millions at his poll problems between now and November, and the only way to counter it is to register, register, register and phone bank and give, give, give to the Obama campaign. Obviously, they're trustworthy and skillful stewards of our donations - they've blunted Romney's summer offensive quite effectively - but the Fall offensive is the real push, and they need every bit of support we can provide.

14. Agreed: needs to be an OP

The fall is really important. But everyone needs to start raising cash now.

There is a huge problem: the celebrity fundraisers are going at $20k a pop for Obama. Rmoney folks are writing checks to the tune of $20 million a pop.

I don't know where this leaves us. The grass roots can not raise obscene amounts of cash like $20 million a pop unless we get really excited. We arent excited. Obama can't win if he is outspent 10-1. I am phone banking and it is hard.

It's great to yuck about the douche that is Rmoney;but it kind of reminds me of Yucking it up over GW in the summer of 2004.

I think we need a get up off your keyboards and get out there on the campaign from DUers. Or, at least a massive social medi campaign from DU. Everyone needs to mobilize.

6. This, re. Independents is very bad news for the MittTwit:

snip:

"Critically, independent voters now hold their favorable views of Obama more strongly than they do of Romney. More independents view Obama favorably than unfavorably, by a margin of 53 percent to 40 percent. Their opinions of Romney were nearly reversed, with 37 percent viewing him favorably and 50 percent unfavorably."

12. This is good news...

.. Romney strikes me as the kind of candidate that will do and say really stupid stuff out of desperation. These numbers are not enough to make him desperate, but they are headed that way!

We should know the night of the 6th.

Of course, you can do what I do every year and let the Republicans know that they do indeed vote on Wednesday - to help with long lines and the new VoterID laws slowing things down.

I have a strong feeling, Reid is going to let more spill about Romney's taxes. But timing is everything.

21. Cheaper to register voters and GOTV than all that media buy.

We need to register voters and make sure they get to the polls. This is much more effective than trying to convince those few undecided. Who in reality have made up their mind but just like the attention and they think they are really giving it some deep thought. What is their to think about? 1% poster boy vs middle class supporter Obama

24. Negative is all he's got

Not much to vote FOR when it comes to Mitt. He's a bit of a phantasm.
I expect October to be a Shit Show of negative ads from that empty suit,
the kind of BS that makes your head explode.
I will keep an eye on the Daily Show, Colbert and Rachel -- otherwise, I will
change the channel when I spot anything related to that creep.
