Americans for Prosperity (Koch Brothers) Begins $25 Million Anti-Obama Ad Campaign

Source: New York Times

ORLANDO, Fla. — Americans for Prosperity, the Tea Party organization backed by the Koch brothers, is set to begin a $25 million advertising assault aimed at President Obama, its largest effort to date.

The ad campaign is the latest example of how independent political groups financed by a small number of wealthy donors are shaping the presidential campaign in key swing states. Conservative groups and “super PACs” have been particularly aggressive, pummeling Mr. Obama on the airwaves as Mitt Romney’s campaign waits until after the Republican National Convention — when it will be legally permitted to spend the hundreds of millions of dollars it has raised in recent months — to ramp up its advertising efforts.

American for Prosperity said that the first of several ads would begin appearing on Wednesday in 11 battleground states, including here in Florida. The campaign will last for three weeks — extending through Labor Day weekend — and includes Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The first ad, titled “President Obama: A One-Term Proposition,” hits the president over the rising national debt — an issue that conservative political groups like Americans for Prosperity and American Crossroads, which is run with the help of Karl Rove, believe is particularly powerful with swing voters in this election.

1. A simple commercial

showing who run up the debt will diffuse that message easily.

Everyone knows Ronnie Reagan and two Bushes ran the debt up.

6. "Everyone knows Ronnie Reagan and two Bushes ran the debt up."

No, they don't.

About 40% of the people who vote KNOW, no ifs, ands or buts, that the evil liberals have put this country into that level of debt, and showing them graphs or the actual numbers will not change that belief.

About 20% of the people who vote honestly have no clue and are susceptible to believing whatever sounds good to them.

How these people break will determine whether we get eternally screwed over as a country or have the opportunity to potentially stave off the corporate onslaught for a while longer.

2. Versus:

$25 million utilized to create jobs.

$25 million to feed the Hungry.

$25 million to build homes.

$25 million to build schools and libraries.

$25 million for research for a cure for cancer.

Even $25 million to pay down the national debt.

Some people don't deserve the money they have.

7. But the Koch brothers fund

the New York City ballet and NOVA, so that makes it all good.

Nice People Doing Nice Things, as Harry Shearer says.

8. And they're still wasting $25 million notwithstanding how they've spent

their money elsewhere.

That's tax-deductible image advertising from a tax-exempt 501c3 organization.

Unless the IRS investigates and determines otherwise, that's the economically-rational way to use money.

3. Romney is lying to submissive followers

Any reasonable person's intelligence would be insulted by this ad that blatantly assumes viewers are ignorant of the truth, that Obama had nothing whatsoever to do with the debt problem.

But Romeny's researchers probably concluded that a large percentage of viewers have no critical thinking skills, and will make decisions based on this misinformation. They figure, that those same people would comply with whatever Rmoney wants if he were elected. Romney is banking solely on the idea his followers will comply with anything regardless of how detrimental.

5. maybe the debt is rising because some people don't pay taxes for 10 years?

I'm sure Romney has 3 positions on the national debt.

11. Democracy for Sale In 2012 Thanks to Citizens United

Obama can easily out-raise Romney when it comes to direct contributions subject to federal limits. However, Romney has the Adelson and Koch billionaires swooping in to buy some favors.
