George Zimmerman's Lawyer, Mark O'Mara, To Speak At Convention For Gun Rights Group
Source: Huffington Post
Mark O'Mara, the attorney for George Zimmerman, who is charged with killing Trayvon Martin, is set to speak to a gun rights group next month.
According to a notice by the Second Amendment Foundation, O'Mara will address the group at its annual conference, although it does not specify what O'Mara will be discussing.
"With new battles over individual rights in the age of terrorism, attacks on our gun rights from the UN, a number of Second Amendment cases in the courts and an important upcoming election, your attendance is critical," the e-mail reads. "The theme of Elect Liberty is most important as we set the pro-gun rights agenda for the year to come."
Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager, in Sanford, Fl. Zimmerman claimed that he shot Martin in self-defense. The case sparked a furor after Zimmerman was initially released following the shooting, and many felt that Martin, whom Zimmerman said looked suspicious, had been racially profiled.

(15,953 posts)First the lying about available bail money. Then the FOX news interview and now this. The conduct seems inappropriate to say the least. It wouldn't surprise me if Zimmerman gets convicted and appeals it based on improper conduct by his defense lawyer.

(7,402 posts)Asked for a new delay in Zimmerman's trial. He is too busy out making money to be able to put together a defense for Zimmerman. What a sleeze bag!

Alleged murderers deserve their rights just like everybody else. Almost half the freaking Bill of Rights, after all, deals specifically with the rights of people suspected/accused/arrested/convicted of crimes.
But speaking at a political convention? While the trial is still pending!
I would not be surprised if the judge disallows this. It certainly makes, "did you watch any of the Republican National Convention," a legitimate question in weeding out jurors to avoid star-struck jurors. It almost makes, "are you Republican," a legitimate question, and that would be really scary.

(37,748 posts)Examples like this one aptly illustrate why I simply cannot give any credibility to any "Gun Rights Group"-- as they turn out to be nothing more than regressive social advocacy programs (more often than not).
Sure, maybe there is indeed a true, non-partisan, second-amendment rights focus group out there somewhere in the vast beyond-- but they certainly do get drowned out by their politically-motivated bothers-in-arms (projecting this arguments onto other venues, I think I can understand the frustration many DUers have with progressive Christian groups not denouncing the radical politicization of many religious organizations...)

Even the FBI investigators came to the conclusion that the confrontation was neither racially motivated nor a "hate crime".
But... keep grasping at those straws... maybe some day you'll actually latch onto something.
