Some neighbors were questioned as to his original area and at least one

thought it was North Carolina, but no one, at that point was sure.

What they did know was that he had recently broken up with a girlfriend.

You'll find that sort of personal rejection/disappointment rejection frequently

preceeding these types of incidents.

I find it strange, the time he was in service, I just heard on the news that the FBI had been watching him since 2000.

It is possible he only joined the army for that reason. Which means he might have already been on the FBI's radar.
