Vast international child-porn network uncovered
Source: Associated Press (via Raleigh News & Observer)
What they found on Arnett's computer was unlike anything some of the investigators had ever come across: long, graphic, online chats about his desire to abduct, kill and eat children. They said he had also made photos of a naked 2-year-old boy in a roasting pan inside his oven. The child and two other boys Arnett allegedly abused and photographed were later identified and found alive. In July, authorities arrested four men they say had online discussions with Arnett about kidnapping and eating children. Those arrested included Ronald Brown, a children's puppeteer from Largo, Fla. (A YouTube video shows Brown during an appearance on a Christian TV kids show in the 1980s. In the video, he tells a child puppet that he did the right thing by refusing to look at "dirty pictures" some other youngsters tried to show him.) In excerpts of an online chat between Arnett and Brown from 2011, the two men appear to be discussing their desire to cook a child for Easter. "he would make a fine Easter feast," Arnett says. "yes, his thighs and butt cheeks would be fantastic for Easter," Brown responds. 35. There are several reasons.
|
First, he was my brother-in-law (my sister did divorce him, because he was also a batterer). Second, everyone in the family called him "Ace," because they all thought he was all that and a bag of chips. Third, my father was an alcoholic, abusive man. Geez, I could go on, and on. Suffice it to say, he perped on me and my two sisters, and we're still dealing with the consequences.

It's amazing that people can't see beyond the facade. When I worked with foster kids, I foundthat you can not tell a pedophile by the way they look. Only when you get to know them can you see the little "tells" of their terrible sickness. He should be quarantined to protect the rest of society, you especially.

My abuser is near the end of his life on this planet. He must go to his grave with the knowledge that he perped on three little girls (that we know of). His children (my nieces and nephew) must make their peace with this sordid family history. My sisters (the other two survivors of his sickness) have continued to deny that the abuse affected them in any way. Meanwhile, they have serious trust, anger, intimacy and power issues that directly relate to the abuse.

Is there an "evil" gene in some people's chromosomes? Or are we going to degenerate into religious superstition and claim that it's the work of Satan? No, there is no such thing as "evil"; these guys are sick - terribly, horrifically, heartbreakingly sick and, with our primitive understanding of mental illness, probably incurably so.

The mother of one of the boys said she initially did not believe the allegations against Arnett, a family friend for about 15 years. She said her son, now 7, and several nephews often spent weekends at Arnett's home four or five years ago.
"Well, when we first got the phone call, we thought there's no way. You guys got the wrong guy," she said. The Associated Press does not identify victims of sexual abuse or their families. But then investigators showed her photos Arnett had allegedly taken of her son with a shirt and no pants. "Regret? For sending my son with a sick-minded guy, that's the only regret I have. I had no idea," she said. "It's depressing." Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/08/04/2244828/vast-international-child-porn.html#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy so she did not find it strange somehow that this guy apparently wanted to spend weekends with a 2 year old that was not a relative? and the most she can utter is that it's depressing?!!?! what about the damage done to her son? |

Not that I think they should be, but a lot of people would do well to take a parenting class BEFORE they make the decision to have children. Maybe some of them would decide to eschew the opportunity.
That's an obtuse, or lazy, or irresponsible, or uncaring, parent. She shouldn't be depressed, she should be HORRIFIED, angry, enraged. She sounds like she's bummed because she lost the free babysitter so she could go out bar-hopping, or something... |

Because the most dangerous molesters are always kind, charming, generous and 100% trustworthy...The abuse doesn't start ten seconds after meeting the child, he slowly and methodically works his way into the parents and child's friendship...
Always in a bust like this, you can count on the standard "HIM? Arrested? How can that be? He was always so good with kids! I would have trusted him with my own!!" -from a neighbor |

And yet there are humans who risk life and limb to stop these monstrosities. That, and the survivors who _don't_ grow up to molest but come out of it helping other survivors, gives me hope.
But the story (and photos of) a "bound two-year-old boy" who was raped? It's so hard not to want to hack these monsters to death with a dull axe. If I were the parent, they'd have to incarcerate me or drug me into oblivion. Those poor babies. |

14. I hate that this leads me to mistrust men who work with children
|
I really dislike that I have this reaction. It's not fair to good men who seek careers that involve kids, but it's a truism that all child molesters try to get work that gives them exposure to this "supply." Most men who work with children aren't child molesters, but all child molesters find ways to work with children. So, maybe it's 0.001% of men, but I still find myself mentally reflecting on every guy I know in pediatrics, child therapy, elementary school, etc., and wondering if they're secretly the monster whom no one ever suspected.
Truly, I hate myself for doing this, but what parent wouldn't have this worry? How do y'all handle this? Women can molest too, but it tends to be pubescent guys or they're in the pedophilia network for the money. I just don't think it's anywhere near the percentage of pedophiles who are male. |

"How do y'all handle this? "
I worked for TX Dept of Child Protective Services as a caseworker for just over five years. When my five-year review came up, I finally realized I'd either have to quit, or I would become an alcoholic. So I suppose that in the long run, I didn't deal with it, I just walked away from it, and have since repressed a lot of things I saw and memories I had. "I hate that this leads me to mistrust men who work with children..." Don't. When it comes to child abuse, both sexes seemed equally represented, but in the myriad of molestation cases I reviewed, there was only one instance of an adult female being involved-- all other cases were perpetrated by adult males. |

It's appalling that the people who do this work are understaffed, underpaid, overworked, and rather organizationally powerless. This is some of the most difficult work around. I have a relative who's a family services social worker in Appalachia and the stories are bloodcurdling. This person also has to adopt every abandoned animal these drug abusing parents leave behind (the children get temporary homes). I've told her she needs to apply for non-profit status since she's at about 15 animals now. She even rescued someone's abandoned pet tarantula! Thank you for sticking it out five years. I couldn't have stuck it out five hours. |

The people who have to dig through the muck on the computers, noting every detail, so that these people can be brought to justice are saints. Nineteen weeks? What kind of person looks at a 19 week old baby and sees a sex object?
The kind of people who need that kind of control over another person, and who can convince themselves that they really 'love' children (and most of them do), are just beyond my ability to grant sympathy. Can't do it. Even when I know, intellectually, what drives a person, I can't do it. |

28. Brain Aberration
|
I recently have read some very interesting articles about the human brain and it's extreme complexity.
Surely I am a lay person in this area but find what in this case a very extreme case at best. What is actually going on in the Brains of these offenders is way past my knowledge. Those men or women in some cases who commit these extreme acts or fantasies are surely not operating in what is normal to the vast majority of us. Not to many years ago a Mother sexually attacked and killed her Daughters friend who came to visit. I am surely admitting that these type of crimes are the most horrific, ugly and vile by any standard. However, killing these perpetrators may rid our society of them permanently but to have Behavioral Scientists and Forensic Psychiatrists examine & study them may be more productive to understand what makes them tick. At the present though finding them and locking them up if convicted at least protects our children to some degree. In closing, way to many crimes against children are perpetrated every day here in the United States and around the world. These truly vile abominations must be stopped. |
