John McCain responds to Cheney with torture jab
Posted by Rachel Weiner at 09:44 AM ET, 07/30/2012

Former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) brought out the rhetorical firepower Monday morning when asked about Dick Cheney's criticism of Sarah Palin, questioning the former vice president’s judgment on torture.

Cheney said Sunday that it was a “mistake” to put Palin on the Republican ticket in 2008 when she’d governed Alaska for less than two

“I’m always glad to get comments four years later,” McCain said sarcastically. “Look, I respect the vice-president. He and I had strong disagreements as to whether we should torture people or not. I don’t think we should have.”

“But,” McCain added, “the fact is that I’m proud of Sarah Palin, I’m proud of the job she did, I’m proud of the job she continues to do, and so everybody has their own views and I respect those views, but I’m proud of what we did.”

is correct on the torture issue, while being incorrect on just about everything else).

11. i'm glad torture is a liability for Cheney

for a while it was looking like our country was embracing torture completely, for example it seemed what people mostly liked about "24" was the torture part.

18. Never thought I'd say this but...

...good for McCain for slapping down that war criminal.

McCain for all his faults is a decorated military man. He knows waterboarding is evil and wrong.

Cheney is beneath scum

15. I know that McCain is getting old and senile

as is Cheney, but McCain has to defend Palin because doing otherwise would prove what a ignorant fool he is. McCain does not condone torture but he sure as hell doesn't mind torturing people in AZ. He needs to resign. As far as Cheney is concerned, his opinions mean absolutely nothing to me. He's a bloviating ignoramus.

17. You said it for me

I was going to post my two-cents worth on this, but you've already said it. I would like to make one minor change however:

Instead of "a bloviating ignoramus", I would have used "an EVIL bloviating ignoramus". When it comes to rotton, mean, blood-thirsty, stinking, pukey assoholes like Cheney, I've always gone a little overboard on the adjectives.

16. Cheney & Scalia both

to be avoided at all costs when aired - they have nothing to contribute. And Palin? Well, that goes without saying.

21. Nice jab, John

but having to listen to the Klondike Kardashian screech inanities for several months constituted torture for many of us.
