Romney outrages Palestinians by saying Jewish culture helps make Israel more successful

JERUSALEM - Mitt Romney told Jewish donors Monday that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the nearby Palestinians, outraging Palestinian leaders who called his comments racist and out of touch.

``As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,'' the Republican presidential candidate told about 40 wealthy donors who breakfasted around a U-shaped table at the luxurious King David Hotel.

Romney, in comparing the Israeli and Palestinian economies, made no mention of the fact that Israel has controlled the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem since capturing them in the 1967 war. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but continues to control access, and has enforced a crippling border blockade since the Islamic militant Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

Romney is an ignoramus! Aside from that, he's being outrageously provocative, promoting more injustice for Palestinians, engaging in absurd rhetoric, and making a bad situation only worse by his pronouncements.

The man is more dangerous than Palin ever was. At least people around the world could laugh at Palin's geographic and historic stupidity.

of Indian reservations than within those reservations. It must be that wonderful European culture that makes the rest of the country more successful, right?

And a republican? WOW - Shock alert!!! I'm not surprised at all. In fact, I expect it. Within the next several months, his mouth will kill his run for the presidency, if it hasn't done so already. Then, hopefully, rmoney can retire in style.

For the past week I've been watching every car-wreck he's created with glee, but by this point it has almost stopped being funny and moved on to horrifying. I want to watch the floor show of him going down in flames, but it is terrifying that someone this stupid, bigoted, and tone-deaf can really be on the ballot for POTUS, and even more terrifying that neither the media nor the more marginally sane members of his own party are willing to sound the alarm. (Granted, George Will and a few others have brought it up, but that's hardly the same as grabbing party leaders by the lapels and yelling "W! T! F! do you think you are doing? Do you have NO brains left?")

This is no different than the stereotype that Jewish people are really good with money, own Hollywood money and the rest. Except this time it's spun as a positive.

Black people are good at sports, Asians math, Jewish people money.

Dangerous and divisive stereotyping all of it.

Romney is a dangerous dangerous idiot. The more this goes on the more stressed I become what would happen if he wins.

They are very much walled off ghettos under the purview of the Israeli government. The Palestinian Authority is very limited in what it can do for the Palestinians because the Israeli government controls most aspects of what a government actually does. The citizens living in those territories are have no representation in the larger, actual government that runs their lives.

What is sad is Romney surely knew this before making that statement.
