Steven McGovern, son of former South Dakota senator George McGovern, dies at 60

By Associated Press, Published: July 29AP SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Steven McGovern, the son of former South Dakota senator George McGovern, has died. He was 60.

The statement said McGovern died on his birthday in hospice care.

His sister, Ann McGovern, said in the statement, “Steve had a long struggle with alcoholism. We will all miss him deeply, but are grateful that he is now at peace.”

Funeral arrangements are pending

1. So sad. Healing thoughts to Senator McGovern and his family. Didn't

he have a daughter who died young as well? A lot of heartbreak in his life.

2. yes his daughter Terry died about fifteen years ago and his wife Eleanor died about two years ago

8. Oh, no! Didn't the senator just have his 90th birthday?

How incredibly sad both for the senator and his family. Alcoholism is a struggle and not everyone makes it, a minority, actually. I'm in AA. Godspeed, Steven.

9. I have had beloved family members die from effects of alcoholism.

It is terrible.

I am fearful for Sen. McGovern. He is 90 and not in the greatest health...I wish him strength...
