Romney looks to Israel speech to salvage London shambles

Mitt Romney will this weekend threaten war on Iran if he is elected president, as he tries to recover from accusations that he embarrassed America with his calamitous visit to London.
By Jon Swaine in Washington

5:46PM BST 27 Jul 2012

The Republican presidential candidate is due to arrive in Israel on Saturday for the second leg of his overseas tour, and will pledge in a speech on Sunday to stop Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon with crippling sanctions or force if required.

He describes a nuclear-armed Iran as "the greatest threat to the world" and has struck a more bellicose tone than Barack Obama, telling Tehran: "If you want peace, prepare for war".

¬snip¬

He will seek to salvage the tour in Jerusalem by demonstrating that he would be a sturdier ally to Israel than Mr Obama, who has not visited since taking office in 2009.

In an interview with an Israeli newspaper this week, he pledged to "treat Israel like the friend and ally it is", adding: "I cannot imagine going to the United Nations, as Obama did, and criticising Israel in front of the world".

Shades of McCain and all the other neo-cons.

Arab Spring Comment Was a Romney Love Letter to the Israeli Right Wing
by Michael Tomasky Jul 28, 2012 4:45 AM EDT

If you speak neocon, Romney’s Israel Hayom interview was crystal clear: the Islamist-electing Arab Spring was all Obama’s fault—because he failed to promote Bush’s freedom agenda. It’s all a message to Israel, says Michael Tomasky.

Usually Mitt Romney’s problem, as we saw in London, is that he says something obnoxious. But on Friday, to the right-wing Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, owned by Las Vegas mogul Sheldon Adelson, he said something that simply made no sense, about George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and the Arab Spring. Check that: it made no sense unless you keep up with the tergiversations and vanishing-commissar new versions of history propounded by the neocons and duly followed by Romney. Once again, Herr Mittens proves that there are times when he emphatically does not misspeak—when he’s sucking up to the right.

13. I'm hoping he doesn't start another war in the Middle East.

I never thought there could be a worse candidate than George W. Bush, but this guy? His kind of stupid seems to help along his malevolence, rather than hinder it like Bush's did.

Bush was too ignorant to achieve the level of evil to which he aspired. This guy... isn't. He could be the very worst, if he gets close enough to steal it.

4. Wait, how is bashing Obama in an Israeli newspaper JUST prior to his visit not a violation of his

pledge to not be critical of Obama on foreign soil? Only in a semantic way is he keeping that pledge, imo.

6. So Romney shows up in Isreal on the Sabbath and the day before Tisha B'av, a day of morning for the

jewish people. Thisha B"av is the day that the First and Second Temple was destroyed, the Jewish expulsion of Spain begins, and the mass deportation from the Warsaw Ghetto. And now the day Mitt the Twit shows up to start another war.

7. This is bullshit - "Mr Obama, who has not visited since taking office in 2009."

St. Ronny Raygun NEVER visited Israel in his 8 years in office and neither did Poppy Bush. Shrub went twice (both times right before he left office after his 2nd term) and Clinton went 4 times.

They need to stop repeating the RW projections.

16. "Poppy" Bush is George H.W. Bush--not George W. Bush who would have been in office in 2007...

Perhaps it is you who is confused. George W. Bush did indeed go to Israel as was correctly stated in the post to which you responded.

18. You do realize that there were 2 Presidents named Bush, right?

There's the imbecile we were stuck with for 8 years despite the fact that he lost the 2000 election, and then there was the pasty goober who threw up on the PM of Japan.

to tell a Jewish mother joke.

eg :

A young Jewish man excitedly tells his mother he's fallen in love and that he is going to get married.
He says, "Just for fun, Ma, I'm going to bring over 3 women and
you try and guess which one I'm going to marry." The mother agrees.

The next day, he brings three beautiful women into
the house and sits them down on the couch and they
chat for a while. He then says, "Okay, Ma, guess
which one I'm going to marry."
She immediately replies, "The one on the right."
"That's amazing, Ma. You're right. How did you know?
The Jewish mother says, "I don't like her."

11. Sounds more like a universal prospective mother-in-law joke.

We all think no woman is good enough for our sons. The exception would be if her kid is 40 years old, lives in the basement and is a hoarder and speaks Klingon and Huttese fluently. Then, she'll love the woman to death.

Unless she's moving in, too.

Although I'm not a Jew today I will be tomorrow after the circumcision. And to prove my allegiance to the God of Kolob that foreskin will be put on ice and reattached upon my return to Anglo Saxon land.
