House Democrats will have a chance next week to vote on the Senate-passed middle-class tax bill, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said on Thursday.
Boehner said the House would vote on the Democratic bill alongside a measure that would extend the entire slate of George W. Bush-era tax rates.
If our Democrat colleagues want to offer the presidents plan or the Senate Democrat plan, were more than happy to give them the vote, Boehner said during his weekly Capitol press conference.

DearAbby
(12,461 posts)have two bills. One the Senate version, the other Full extension. This vote could surprise us. I wonder how GOP would explain to voters back home, the entire month of August, why they voted to protect the tax cuts of the wealthy instead of tax extensions for them?
This vote could be what no one is expecting...keep positive.

(3,194 posts)Unfortunately the vote will be EXACTLY what everyone is expecting. It won't even be close.
The repubs will vote in their 100% block, and the Democrats will vote in their 90% block.
DearAbby
(12,461 posts)It passed. I believe some sane Republicans do not want to face a month's worth of angry questions regarding the extension of tax cuts for the 98%.
There was a reason Reid timed it for now....
Not enough Dems to pass the bill. That's kind of him.

(7,402 posts)That should be an important part of any decision on which proposal to vote for.
Notice too that Boehner is only talking about "the entire slate of George W. Bush-era tax rates. He is playing word games here. Otherwise his bill would be a tax increase on the middle class -- because cuts for the middle class were put in place by Obama.
And how would Boehner pay for the tax rate cut for the top 2%, more deficits? Are those deficits worth it if only the top 2% get 100% of the money?
