Christian Bale in town (Aurora, CO) visiting victims of shooting
Source: 9News/Denver Post
Christian Bale, star of the Batman films, is in town visiting victims of the Aurora movie theater shooting, Warner Brothers officials confirmed. "Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers," said an assistant for Susan Fleishman, executive vice president for Warner Brothers corporate communications. Read more: http://www.9news.com/news/article/279422/339/Christian-Bale-in-town-visiting-victims-of-shooting That's all there is. It's a VERY classy move by Christian Bale to visit the victims of last Friday's shooting - so that the victims know that everyone is thinking about them - even Batman himself. He just earned more respect from me - I loved him in "American Psycho" - and I haven't yet SEEN any of Bale Batman movies - but now I think I will go out and buy his movies.

1. I think it's terrific that he's doing this.
|
Even better that he's doing it as himself, the individual.

3. Watch The Fighter to see Bale at his best
|
I generally am bored by boxing movies and the boxing scenes in The Fighter were as boring as any other boxing movie, but the scenes with Christian Bale playing the crack addicted brother make the whole movie worth it, he steals every scene he is in.

But it's just one of those movies... You watch it once, think it's awesome, and then you don't want to ever see it again. Clockwork Orange goes under that category too.

No cute kid films for him. He was a mature and serious actor in a very harsh movie.

14. That is indeed a very classy move on his part. A social conscience.
|
I appreciate this very much, and it makes me hold Christian Bale in higher regard. He's "there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers." VERY classy and compassionate. And - um - that leads me to want to ask - WHERE THE FUCK IS WARNER BROTHERS THEN? Shouldn't they be visiting there, too? Maybe making a donation or something, or offering to help compensate the theater or aid the victims or initiate a trust fund in honor of the dead? Or making a contribution to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence? That would be classy, too, and proactive.

15. Hate to be cynical but ..
|
how do we know if Bale's appearance wasn't suggested by Warner's PR division and the producers of "The Dark Knight" in the first place? Perhaps Bale has a conscience and did this entirely on his own .. I hope so. I never trust what I see on the surface.

17. I get the feeling if WB suggested it
|
They would have made an announcement beforehand, so the press could be there to get video and pictures. The only pictures I've seen of him there look like they came from camera phones, so it looks like Bale decided to do this without informing anybody. Major props, instead of putting himself in the limelight, he seems to have wanted this visit to be as low key as possible.

20. You don't know much about Bale do you?
|
He is something of a rebel in that industry. I doubt Warner Bros. could have dragged him there in chains let alone orchestrated it or even suggested it. He would have told them to go fuck themselves, probably.

30. I understand the cynicism
|
but I get the impression everyone involved in the making of the movie is sincerely horrified by what happened last Friday. Bale's statement (and Nolan's for that matter) immediately following the massacre sounded pretty heartfelt and genuine.
Now of course, a tragedy and horror like what happened never helps the bottom line (and possibly put a bit of a damper on opening weekend numbers), and I'm pretty critical of large corporations and how they handle themselves, but so far WB has done a decent job in presenting itself after this tragedy. They've also donated to the victim's fund, which will hopefully help the uninsured victims and their medical expenses. |
