Trump Russia dossier key claim 'verified'

Source: BBC

By Paul Wood BBC News, Washington
The BBC has learned that US officials "verified" a key claim in a report about Kremlin involvement in Donald Trump's election - that a Russian diplomat in Washington was in fact a spy.

So far, no single piece of evidence has been made public proving that the Trump campaign joined with Russia to steal the US presidency - nothing.

But the FBI Director, James Comey, told a hushed committee room in Congress last week that this is precisely what his agents are investigating.

Stop to let that thought reverberate for a moment.

Lost in Comeys testimony last week was that the voter rolls were targeted. I haven't heard any of the pundits talk about that angle. I figured they hacked those with the intent to remove the voters they didn't like.

The article fills in that gap. They used the voter rolls to target the bots. Which was a novel twist. Democratic voter in a swing state? Send them lots of fake news to dissuade Bernie fans from voting for Hillary.

And I still haven't seen the media ask whether Jill Stein was involved too. She was at the same table in Russia with Flynn and Putin as well.

I think a lot of Bernie fans turned on Hillary due to social media plants. Hillary won the primary fair and square, but on facebook you didn't see the support. It was just an outright hostile rejection of Hill, and just the kind of mess trolls like to cause. Folks, we were played!

They amplified the "Feel the Bern" enthusiasm by a factor of double digits. They encouraged a vitriolic approach, too.

It's why his rah-rah didn't match his vote-vote. Real life trolls, as well as bot trolls, can't vote (easily, anyway).

Many knew this, said so, and got pushback for it.

The primary is water under the bridge, but the hacking and interference that happened needs to be investigated because we can't ever let this crap happen again.

The scam "fake news" blogs paid for advertising space on Facebook.
So what did Facebook do?

They took the ad money and looked the other way while all the "ads that looked like news stories" proliferated.
Guess where all those ads came from?

Facebook owes the USA an apology for letting this happen.

They took the ad money and provided no oversight.

The Trump campaign also used the company Cambridge Analytica to mine the private data of US citizens in order to target them with propaganda to influence their vote, particularly in Midwestern swing states. Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix stated the month before the U.S. election; “Today in the United States we have somewhere close to four or five thousand data points on every individual…So we model the personality of every adult across the United States, some 230 million people.” This data was collected without users knowing and without their permission. Cambridge Analytica is funded by American hedge-fund billionaire Robert Mercer, whose daughter Rebecca now serves as one of 16 people on the Trump Administration’s transition team. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was involved with Cambridge Analytica during the campaign. Steve Bannon, who ran the ultra-conservative website Breitbart before becoming Trump’s campaign chairman, and will soon be his White House senior adviser, is a board member of Cambridge Analytica. The data firm is a subsidiary of the SCL Group which is known for “military disinformation” campaigns. This raises questions as to whether Cambridge Analystica’s role on the Trump campaign was to spread fake news stories that matched the messaging of the Russian propaganda machine, and if so, whether there was coordination. More concerning, Steve Bannon is trying to secure major contracts for Cambridge Analytica to run the White House data operation.

I'd love to see a connection of Cambridge Analytica to the ru$$ian hackers..............now they have our browsing histories, who knows what other things they'll be doing?

If by "spy" you mean somebody who goes and plants bugs or breaks into a place to ferret out secrets; if by "spy" you mean somebody who blackmails or bribes somebody to divulge secrets; then the answer is "no."

If by "spy" you mean somebody who's working not for the diplomatic service but for an intelligence service at least part of the time and who might do it "voluntarily" to avoid bad consequences; if by "spy" you mean somebody who collects information and analyzes it to find political and military weaknesses; if by "spy" you mean somebody who works primarily in the field, with access to a lot of sources of information that wouldn't be available "back home" and who uses their cover to explore contacts from which additional information can be obtained; then the answer is "yeah, pretty much."

Almost any diplomat can be a "spy" under the second sort of definition. It's why many Americans caught overseas doing nothing more than photographing public buildings or talking to strangers in cafes or even just buying a bunch of newspapers can be called a "spy." We think "007"; they think something else.
