Hillary Clinton rallies women, calls out tech companies gender bias in SF speech

Source: Mercury News

SAN FRANCISCO — Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton pushed women to stand up for their rights Tuesday during a speech in San Francisco, while pointing a finger at local tech companies with spotty records in gender equality.

“I am here today to urge us not to grow tired. Not to be discouraged and disappointed. Not to throw up our hands because change is not happening fast enough,” Clinton said. “We need more women at any table, at any conference call or email chain where decisions are made.”

She called out Uber specifically, referencing the engineer who in a blog post last month accused the company of protecting a manager who sexually harassed her.

“Stereotypes and bias run rampant even at companies that pride themselves in forward thinking,” Clinton said.

since the author has facts and figures to back up her claim about endemic sexism and employee harassment at Uber.

https://www.susanjfowler.com/blog/2017/2/19/reflecting-on-one-very-strange-year-at-uber

She's not the only female engineer to have documented this at Uber. Apparently "forward looking company" only refers to the financial killing any new tech startup expects to make.

Water's hair. She was having none of it and pointed out that women of color seem to get the brunt of these nasty remarks. She looked awesome with her leather jacket, new haircut and a great attitude. This was on FB from CNN..

Donnie is doing just fine at screwing himself over. If she starts up, her reputation, whether deserved or not, is just going to provide that a hole with yet more distractions.

He has already tried with a tweet just recently.

She should just go about her business quietly, keep the PR to a minimum, until Donnie has finished hoisting himself upon his own petard.

Not sure where you are going with the last bit though.

I suppose it's just about priorities.

Some portion of the party wants to cling to the past. Another part, a growing one I suspect, wants to move on and bring in some fresh leadership that hasn't been ensconced for 40 years.

Nothing I've said is belittling. It's just time to pass the torch to someone who can produce.

best Democrats and ignore the reality that the election was stolen. You've done nothing but say you think our candidate was ineffective and that clown face himself proves it.

No one is interested in that kind of ignorance here.

It's crazy how big of a problem it is going all the way back into basic education considering the huge technological contribitions women have made in the past.

They're subject to bias throughout school, driven away from the tech industry, then so many of those few that do make it through all that bullshit are subjected to harassment and misogyny as professionals.
