Bomb squads disarm traps at Colo. suspect's apt
Source: AP/Yahoo
AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Details are coming out about how a bomb squad is taking apart the booby trapped apartment of the Colorado theater shooting suspect. A law enforcement official, citing the ongoing investigation, spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press and says officers disarmed one explosive with a "water shot," a device that emits a shock wave and water, Police said earlier they had "defeated" another explosive attached to a trip wire but did not say how they did it. The official said the apartment appears to have three types of explosives: jars filled with accelerants, chemicals that would explode when mixed together and more than 30 "improvised grenades" that resemble commercially available aerial fireworks shells. 1. Why would someone plan and build such elaborate traps, only to give up the info?

curious

2. a speculation I heard
|
on the TV last night.... was that he played the loud music in hopes someone would go into his apartment, which he left unlocked, detonate the traps, thus getting the cops there
.....so he could do his thing at the theatre. |

4. Back-up plan that didn't play out? ...or he thought he'd get away?
|
kinda reminded me of 'Enemy of the State' - when Gene Hackman wired his house to blow
pretty diabolical when you think about it, a cop killer trap that was never tripped |

5. That makes sense
|
And he may not have realized his bombs didn't go off, and blabbed not knowing they didn't.

9. It almost worked.
|
His downstairs neighbor went to his apartment and knocked on the door to complain about loud music. She almost went in, but decided not to. So it was close.

3. Because that someone has a brilliant but scrambled mind.

P.S. He should be charged with a count of attempted murder for every legal resident in that building. rocktivity |

6. Well, it might feel good to charge him for the booby traps
|
but there's no practical reason for it. There are enough actual murders to put him away for life.
Or, you may have discovered his "scrambled mind" defense. Hinckley or Kaczynski? Insanity vs so-called sanity. |

7. Colorado 9 TV saying all explosives are removed
|
and samples have been saved.
Explosions will take place of much of the material from the APT. Live web-casts are on this station regularly. http://www.9news.com/video/9newsonline.aspx |

8. I hope they can get all of his computers and cell phones
|
to see where he was visiting. Even if they know his ISP he probably used school and other providers to get to the net.
I expect we'll see some real interesting stuff, much like Jared Loughner. |
