Police: Colo. shooting suspect bought guns legallyLast edited Sat Jul 21, 2012, 08:09 AM USA/ET - Edit history (2)

AURORA, Colo. (AP) — James Holmes is accused of carrying out one of the worst mass shootings in recent U.S. history, but police say there was nothing illegal about the guns and ammunition he allegedly used during a Colorado movie theater attack. "All the weapons that he possessed, he possessed legally," Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said. "And all the clips that he possessed, he possessed legally. And all the ammunition that he possessed, he possessed legally." The four weapons recovered following the shootings that killed 12 and left nearly 60 people injured at a suburban Denver theater were purchased by the suspect from retail gun stores in Colorado in the last two months, authorities said Friday. A federal law enforcement officer said Holmes bought one of the four guns — the first of two Glock pistols — on May 22 at Gander Mountain in Aurora, Colo. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe into the shootings is ongoing. 1. What intended purpose is that?
|
If you are saying guns are intended to kill people, yes, that is true. The second amendment is about killing people who threaten the security of free states.
If you are saying that guns are intended to commit crimes, well, no, that is not true. Yes, if you have a population with relatively free access to the means to defend the security of their free states, you will have people who use them to commit crimes. Fortunately, compared to the number of firearms and firearm owners in this country, it doesn't happen very often. |

Why do you banners always resort to the penis canard?
Seems you are getting more and more shrill? Why? BTW, got that petition to repeal the 2A going yet. Not even those here on DU agree with you. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=979625 |

|
question, what other assault rifle, other than LE, was on scene?
My opinion, and my opinion only, your getting more and more shrill because your beloved idea of gun control is emphatically rejected by the american people and you have to lash out so you lash out at all gun owners, the huge majority who will never commit a crime. Get that petition going yet? |

The death toll from guns has been steadily declining and has reached historic lows. But continue your emotional rant - it is entertaining if nothing else.

Assault rifles are designed, built and sold with ONE purpose only -- to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time.
Yes, this is true. And if you and the rest of the gun nuts think you're somehow going to stave off a police state, you're more deluded and separated from reality than even I thought. Take it up with the founders, dude. I didn't come up with the idea. First off, the police state is already here, just not for you yet. I agree. Second, do you delusional gun nuts actually believe you'd have a chance against the Pentagon? They have weapons that would vaporize you before you had a chance to pull the trigger on your big male enhancement tool. Firstly, what is the insinuation here? That because something is difficult, we should make it even more difficult? Secondly, despite our technological superiority, we have lost every military engagement we have undertaken in the last 65 years. |

17. There Were So Many Mistakes That Empoweed Holmes
|
Last edited Sat Jul 21, 2012, 10:45 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) And that allowed this murder rampage to happen. When somebody buys 6,000 rounds of ammo why isn't the seller required to report this sale to local law enforcement. And why wasn't that exit door at the theatre armed with a silent alert sent to security when it was opened. It could be unarmed just before the show ended so people can use it for one of the intended purposes (a true emergency being another) but I can see no excuse for this exit door not being armed just before the start of the movie. And I would think the theatre would want this because Holmes could have opened it to let in a bunch of buddies for a free movie instead of the much more sinister purpose he had. In fact, I hope the theatre get sued over this.
Next, I suppose Holmes will be setting up an internet site to collect money for his legal defense using Pay Pal. Mark O'Mara could give him some advise on how to do that. |

plus the NRA's puppets in state legislatures and Congress.
Until then, expect more of the same. |

Seems to me that Holmes may not, in fact, have been in the militia nor, it seems, twas he very well regulated.. Other than that, he might have just
been freely exercising his legal NRA-bought and paid for right to patriotically stand his hallowed ground in a darkened theater full of suspicious looking blacks, ala Mr. Georgie Brave Coward Zimmerman? |

If you want to engage in a massacre, you can buy the perfect weapons legally in the United States. Heck, you can even buy them online. These were designed to stop armored vehicles: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/7-G610201. Perfectly legal in the US. We Americans just need to accept that the occasional random massacre of innocent people is the price we pay for a "free society" (not sure what that is exactly, but I'm told it involves lots of guns.)

23. guns are infringing on MY constitutional right to MY pursuit of happiness-BAN THEM & THE NRA
|
there is not one, NOT ONE good thing about a gun
GUNS KILL and people who buy them KILL SOMETHING You cannot yell fire in a theater, yet you can have some rightwing extremist like this a-hole fire his guns in a theater. Not political? Freak yes he was political.this is terroristic action Audit and ban the NRA and allow ME my constitutional right of going to the movies without worrying about whether or not someone will bust in with guns. also, why did this guy give himself up so easily? Obviously he wants to talk to the media. Well, the media should be banned from reporting on him. I am a liberal, and I only vote for Democrats or those who vote with democrats, and/ but I believe we indeed need MORE cameras and MORE security How about some 3D imaging camera in or not in drones able to instantly spot someone like this extremist before he does any harm. HEY DARYL ISAA---speaking of your gun walking- guy walks into a store and legally purchases these weapons, then this gun and this guy walk into a theatre and aim to kill every single person in the theatre Why the freak don't you investigate that? speaking of gun walking. The second amendment allows for a cannon on your front lawn. Not for this. (and ban bullets too. If there are gun collectors, well, if the gun has nothing to shoot, one can still collect the gun). |

25. "gun manufacturers flooded the market with the type of high-capacity magazines Holmes used" -
|
wonderful gun control laws we have.
The type of ammunition magazine Holmes is accused of using was banned for new production under the old federal assault weapon ban, said Daniel Vice, senior attorney for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. When the ban expired in 2004, gun manufacturers flooded the market with the type of high-capacity magazines Holmes used Friday, Vice said. Oates did not specify the type of rifle but said that experts told him "with that drum magazine, he could have gotten off 50 to 60 rounds, even if it was semiautomatic, within one minute. And as far as we know, it was a pretty rapid pace of fire in that theater." Oates said Holmes purchased ammunition over the Internet, including thousands of rounds and multiple magazines for the assault rifle. snip |
