Vets groups feel insulted after Trump skips meeting with them and sends Omarosa instead

President Donald Trump pledged repeatedly during the 2016 presidential campaign to do a better job of taking care of veterans but now some veterans groups say they feel completely rebuffed by his administration.
The Daily Beast reports that several veterans groups felt dismayed this week when they went to a meeting at the White House that wasnt attended by President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, or any other high-ranking administration official.
In fact, the most notable administration member present at the meeting was Omarosa Manigault, a Trump loyalist who first burst onto the scene during her stint as a contestant on Trumps old reality TV show.
I wont say anyone told us we were meeting with the president, but it was implied that we would be able to voice our concerns to the boss, the guy who ultimately runs everything, which is the president, Joe Chenelly, executive director of AMVETS, told The Daily Beast.
.........................................
This isnt the first time that Trump has sent Omarosa to meet with veterans in his place, either, as this past December Omarosa was sent to meet with veterans who had gathered for a meeting at Trump Tower during the presidential transition.

(58,785 posts)and many so gratuitously here. The only people who supported The Donald are those who supported him. No one else, no matter what group you've pegged them in.
Anyway, Donald's avoiding these people almost certainly signals future actions against the VA. We should learn from our past mistakes. Attacking veterans is how to help Republicans, not how to protect the VA from them.

(39,284 posts)I'm a little tired of watching Dems do a better job for vets (e.g. this program which was immediately deleted from the WH website: http://www.militarytimes.com/articles/michelle-obama-melania-trump-joining-forces-military-spouse-veterans-employment) only to be continuously rejected by the majority of them at the polls in presidential elections. And when we run an actual war hero like John Kerry against an AWOL National Guardsman, it doesn't make a difference either. When you're being taken for granted, part of the problem just might be you.

(58,785 posts)not how to protect the VA from destruction. You also don't seem to be counting all the "nice" vets out there.
It's really a simple stratagem: Don't attack your own side when it's under attack by your enemy, and don't join your enemy in attacking your own assets and institutions. Assuming you support the VA of course.

(58,785 posts)The VA had seemed to temporarily dodge a dismantling bullet when the Kochs apparently fell out with their choice to "head"/destroy from within, the puppet they hired to head their Concerned Vets for America, and a VA executive was named instead.
Two days ago, a new Koch-backed Concerned Veterans Ad for America came out with this:
Concerned Veterans For America Launches Campaign To Urge Congress To Support New VA Accountability Bill
http://americanmilitarynews.com/2017/03/concerned-veterans-america-launches-campaign-urge-congress-support-new-va-accountability-bill/
There are enormous riches to be mined by adding vets to for-profit markets, and anti-tax extremists like the Kochs can't "live free" until programs like this one are destroyed.
Right now the VA only spends about 3% of its budget on administrative-type expenses, 0% on profits, wasting 97% on patient care. And overwhelmingly vets really don't want to lose their VA. But Koch propaganda has convinced much of America that the VA is broken and has to be "fixed." Like the ACA.

(4,358 posts)You can't expect him to walk the whole length of the White House to meet with veterans, especially after a long weekend of golf.

(18,124 posts)he constantly insulted vets and currently serving military during his campaign. He's a draft dodging, con man coward/chickenhawk. I am so sick of this bullshit outrage from americans. Should have been outraged enough not to vote this POS into office.

My progenitors would be SICK to see how this nation has been turned to shit since genius Reagan portrayed a president. Hell, we'd be better off if they EXHUMED ol' Ronnie and propped him up at the Executive Desk!

republicans are no friends to America's veterans, as the voting records make plain.

(22,651 posts)Republicans just didn't share the background checks & vettings they did on THEIR candidate for president because they knew you wouldn't vote for him.
like that UK spy experts dossier on trumps "money launderings' in Russia, was ordered first by a Republican. wasn't shared with voters.

That surely would have impressed the veterans.
