A California Congressman took to Twitter on Saturday morning to warn President Donald Trump that if he is correct that his Trump Tower phones were tapped he is in deep sh*t.
Early Saturday morning, Trump set the political world ablaze by accusing former President Barack Obama of having [link:http://www.rawstory.com/2017/03/trump-goes-on-twitter-rant-accusing-ex-president-obama-of-tapping-phones-at-trump-tower-prior-to-election/his phones tapped] prior to the 2016 election.
-snip-
Although Trump provided no information that he may have been monitored, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) stated that the president may want to lawyer up.

If there IS a wiretap, it is classified, so how did he know about it, and why is he publicizing classified info?

(18,625 posts)They are talking about Obama going to jail for tapping the phones.
This is the bigger than watergate moment they've been waiting for.
They Assume he did it illegally all on his own.
I guess FISA is considered to be a criminal organization.

(6,351 posts)Think about this from the perspective of the FISA court judges. You're sitting there trying to decide if you're going to tap the phones of someone with a 50/50 chance of becoming the next POTUS.
I don't care who appointed you and how anonymous you are - that's not one where you give the prosecution the "benefit of the doubt".
Reminds me of the phrase, if you try to kill the king, you damn well better succeed.
These guys saw something in those filings that scared the chit of them. Only way FISA approved taps on TT.
IMHO.

President Trump on Saturday angrily accused former president Barack Obama of orchestrating a Nixon/Watergate plot to tap the phones at his Trump Tower headquarters last fall in the run-up to the election.
Citing no evidence to support his explosive allegation, Trump said in a series of five tweets sent Saturday morning that Obama was wire tapping his New York offices before the election in a move he compared to McCarthyism. Bad (or sick) guy! he said of his predecessor, adding that the surveillance resulted in nothing found.
Trump offered no citations nor did he point to any credible news report to back up his accusation, but he may have been referring to commentary on Breitbart and conservative talk radio suggesting that Obama and his administration used police state tactics last fall to monitor the Trump team. The Breitbart story, published Friday, has been circulating among Trump's senior staff, according to a White House official who described it as a useful catalogue of the Obama administration's activities.
Kevin Lewis, a spokesman for Obama, said in a statement early Saturday afternoon: "A cardinal rule of the Obama Administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false." ... Officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice declined to comment.

Without evidence, Trump accuses Obama of wiretapping him
By Eugene Scott and Shimon Prokupecz, CNN
Updated 1:05 PM ET, Sat March 4, 2017
(CNN)BREAKING NEWS: A spokesperson for former President Barack Obama responded to President Donald Trump's stunning allegations on Saturday that the Obama administration wiretapped him, calling the unverified claim "simply false."
"A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice," Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis said in a statement. "As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false."
............
Asked about Trump's tweets on Saturday, a former senior US official with direct knowledge of investigations by the Justice Department under the Obama administration denied there was any such investigation of Trump or that his phones were tapped.
"This did not happen. It is false. Wrong," the former official said.
The official said clearly that Obama could not order this. It would have been taken to a judge by investigators, but investigators never did that, the former official said.......................................

They knew it would be improper for the ambassador to be there, so they snuck him in a back entrance.
It seems like Rachael said something along those lines last night.

(4,673 posts)Excerpt, re probable cause
"[...]Taking all these claims with the appropriate sodium chloride seasoning, what can we infer? First, contrary to what many on social mediaand even a few reporters for reputable outletshave asserted, the issuance of a FISA order does not imply that the FBI established probable cause to believe that any Trump associate was acting as an agent of a foreign power or engaged in criminal wrongdoing. That would be necessary only if the court had authorized direct electronic surveillance of a United States person, which (if we credit the BBC report) the FISC apparently declined to do. Assuming the initial applications were indeed for full-blown electronic surveillance orders, then the fact that the FBI supposedly did name the Trump associates at first would suggest they may have thought they had such evidence, but one would expect the FISC to apply particularly exacting scrutiny to an application naming persons associated with an ongoing presidential campaign. An application targeting only foreign corporate entitiesespecially entities openly controlled or directed by the Russian governmentwould require no such showing, even if the FBIs ultimate interest were in communications concerning those U.S. persons.
