They were attending a midnight showing of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Local media reports that two gunmen were involved in the rampage. An explosive device was set off during the shooting, injuring several people. The theater was packed with a lot of people, many of them young fans, at the time the shooting started, 9news reports. The violence erupted some 15 minutes after the movie started, witnesses said. Witnesses said the gunmen were probably wearing some kind of body armor and gas masks and used some kind of a tear gas bomb in the attack Edit: Caller to Coast to Coast said one suspect apprehended, another on loose, one baby among dead, none of this confirmed |

164. I was at a premiere last night...
|
And to me, the excitement of the theatre staff and the patrons was the best part of the movie. A bunch of young kids in costume laughing and excited together...the workers were all dressed up as batman characters and kept marching in to do cheesy little skits for us before the show started, to pump up the already pumped up crowd...
To think about such a gleeful, youthful, joyfully geeky experience being disrupted so horrifically is beyond words... |

The only difference was, the terrorists--who wanted to make Shah look bad--used fire and chains on the doors.

Last edited Fri Jul 20, 2012, 05:14 AM USA/ET - Edit history (2) Police/Fire radio reports 10 people are dead. 30 people have been transported to various area hospitals.
Higher number of injured are being reported by the media. I've also read some early reports that the shooter(s) wore gas masks and used some sort of smoke/gas grenades. Nothing I've heard on the police radio corroborates this. |

183. how about starting with some GUN CONTROL laws that work?
|
Instead of the patchwork of state-by-state laws we have now, where in some states it's a free for all. Like AZ, for example---one report on the Fast & Furious gun sales was that a registered gun seller had a sign on the door about limits on semi-auto weapons: "one per day." I mean, how many semi-automatics does a person need if he's not (probably illegally) selling these weapons?
Don't know how loose CO gun laws are but I'm betting they're loose. Expecting NRA gun nuts to let me have it now. |

I was listening to Stephanie Miller's show this morning and there was a guest or caller on there from overseas. Spoke with a British accent. And he commented that the rest of the world looks at us here in the United States and can't understand the whole gun obsession thing. But they sure notice the difference in their own murder (AND mass-murder) rates versus ours. And the one difference? The ridiculously easy access to guns here.
I don't understand it myself. |

It's not typical or normal to be walking around with a gas mask. Unless you're playing dress up for an action movie. edit: not sure if you're watching the stream but a guy even made that same observation. Large movie premiers have police, it's quite common, especially in theaters like this one which is in a seedy area. |

This is what I see
The very wealthy could care less about guns except to keep the riff-raff out of their gated communities (unless the latter are there to fix the toilets), and to hunt threatened species for sport. But the very wealthy support the NRA, militias and pro-gun legislation as a side issue to get the gun nuts to vote for those bought by the 1%. As a bonus, the 1% now is so tied to the militias/NRA that when they want to engineer another coup as they did in 2000, if they need the Brownshirts, they are ready. All they'll need is the call from the Kochtypes via Limpballs, Michelle Bachmann and the rest of the 1% PR/Communications team. |

and they post, every single day, about shooting people. They want to kill people that shoplift, steal cars, start fights, you name it. They post that they sleep with their guns next to their heads loaded, they keep loaded guns on their coffee tables, etc. They are convinced, even though crime has gone WAY down, that someone is after them and they openly say that they WISH someone would break in so they could kill them...
Someone is riling them up and making them even crazier than they were. Seriously, it's never been this way. Look at the comments on any news station site, it's all the same "lock and load" The right wing media and the NRA have found that it's profitable to make them paranoid and aggressive... and they're reporting that this guy may have been a tea party type. They're being pushed to the brink, and though I used the word "crazy" I don't believe that most of them are truly insane, but curated to violence. |

to be honest, I sleep with loaded guns nearby. I have been a victim of violence and I never will be again - I hope - at least not in my own home. But as much as I loathe the cretins and teabagging racist Big Talkers, I have no desire to go on a rampage at a Teabagger potluck. Something has created a rift that makes some Americans think they have the right to kill anyone whom they don't like or with whom they disagree. I am blaming the media. And I believe a lot of these goons WOULD shoot librulls if given free reign, and they would have no remorse about it. Look at how they see Zimmerman as a hero! They think if you see someone black, it's your right to kill that person because hey, they MIGHT be dangerous. They are so full of hate, it's very very sad. There are a lot of messed up people out there with guns. That's why this liberal has her own guns. |

And, I used to live about 2 miles from Columbine High School (moved from Denver area before it happened) AND I worked about 2 miles from where this happened in Aurora. very strange. I am not suggesting that the shooter in any way is connected to the right wing of this country, not even so far as Rush Limpballs making the silly "Bane" / "Bain" comparison and possibly instigating someone to go "kill the movie" by shooting up a theater showing it. We see murder, they see how efficient and cool his firearm was, gun nuts love their heroes.
Publicly of course they will claim the death wasn't caused by guns, they are a philosophical lot when it comes to why these people die, it is never because of guns even tho it is. Very esoteric bunch full of rationalizations for the need to own tools designed to maim and kill their neighbors. They are taking over this site as well, lot of right wing ideas came in with all the Dino's. |

I mean, I should have known but I never looked at the case since it happened.
Some things never change: Huberty, a survivalist, saw signs of what he thought was growing trouble in America, and believed that government regulations were the cause of business failures, including his own. He believed that international bankers were purposefully manipulating the Federal Reserve System and bankrupting the nation. Convinced that Soviet aggression was everywhere, he believed that the breakdown of society was near, perhaps through economic collapse or nuclear war. He committed himself to prepare to survive this coming collapse and, while in Canton, provisioned his house with thousands of dollars of non-perishable food and six guns that he intended to use to defend his home during what he believed was the coming chaos. When he moved from Ohio he left the food behind but brought the guns with him. |

You don't stand there in body armor and say, "This? It's just something I threw on." It takes time to apply it.
Maybe it was someone else unrelated who propped the door for someone else to sneak in but, again. Are we supposed to believe this guy would be dressed up in the back of the theater waiting for sheer chance for someone to prop open a door? |

(CBS/AP) PARIS - The Paris premiere of "The Dark Night Rises" has been canceled after a gunman killed 12 people early Friday morning in Colorado during a screening of the highly anticipated film. when it appeared on the BBC ticker. I guessed Colorado was 7 hours behind the UK so @ 9.45am here it was 2.45am there. I think what had happened with regard to BBC and Sky is that they'd picked it from Reuters who'd got it from a local radio station over where you are. |
