While on NPR, Rubio Questions Usefulness of NPR

Source: ABC OTUS News

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., expressed worry this morning about broadcasting outlets that use taxpayer money to stay on the air.

But Rubio made his comments on NPR, a broadcasting outlet that uses taxpayer money to stay on the air.

"I do have concerns about spending money on public broadcasting," Rubio told Diane Rehm during an hourlong Q&A on NPR.

NPR has been a source of criticism from congressional Republicans who view it as a liberal refuge that espouses its views courtesy of public funding. Although only 2 percent of NPR's funding comes from government grants, the loss of federal funding would undermine the ability of NPR stations to pay for NPR programming, NPR says.

2. NPR & PBS keep the public informed

FOX News only exists to sell advertizing and spread Republican propaganda.

FAIR has repeatedly documented the right wing bias in both NPR and PBS.

5. Worse than arrogant, a liar

I only caught the last 10 minutes of the show, probably a good thing based on what I heard.

Towards the end, Rubio claimed that a T-shirt shop owner in Orlando, Fla with $200k in revenue would pay 35% income tax and maybe 41% due to ACA and other possible Obama initiatives. He rattled off something about all their expenses and how that's not much money.

Totally false statement. $200k revenue is not $200k owner profit. That owner's take-home is probably $50k or less due to cost of goods sold, staff payroll, rent and other expenses, which would likely put him/her in the 15% bracket and that won't be increasing. Unless they have 50+ employees (a virtual impossibility with only $200k in revenue) there's no penalty or tax from ACA if they don't provide health care. So Rubio's example was total bullshit.

Diane Rehm left this completely unchallenged. Bald faced lies that don't get challenged become defacto "truth" to so many people.

Shame on you Diane Rehm. If you're going to have people like Rubio on, don't let them get away with this.

17. The annointed rethug mouthpieces

are required to do this in/on media outlets where they know they will not be challenged. It is the way they 'catapult the propaganda' as mr aWesome once explained.

12. Any "news" channel different from ClusterFuxsNews, Limpdong, Drudgery, etc...

in the minds of The Rube and his Thug, Bully and Bagger Party ilk, believe they should be driven off the air.

They do NOT want any other thoughts/news/reports broadcast, other than what they want...it's the ultimate
in mob-mind control.

Now, I must say, I stopped listening to NPR. I simply could not take the snark of Michelle Norris, Steve Inskeep, Cokie Roberts,
Juan Williams and Mara Liasson (remember, Williams and Liasson, FuksNews Favs!) during the last election. The "digs"
were subtle against Obama/Democrats but they were there.

Done quite deliberatly. Red meat for the Teabagger base.

Squaring off with lib'rul public broadcasting is an attempt to gain cred with them.

19. Apparently Rubio thinks NPR should be more like public-funded anti-Cuba, Miami-based

and Cuban "exile"-directed, programmed, staffed, controlled anti-Cuba propaganda, at the horrendous expense of millions of taxpayers' dollars annually, beamed from a blimp directly at the Cuban people, who are given short-wave radios, set on U.S. the Radio Marti channel by the U.S. Interests section, housed in the Swedish embassy, in Havana.

Yeah, now that's the ticket.

NPR, still under the thumb of the Congressional Republicans, who've hacked funding down to almost nothing, now that's downright useless.

If Marco Rubio says it, you know it's true, just like his claim his parents came to the U.S. to flee from communism (retroactively, like Mitt Romney). People only learned recently they came here BEFORE the Cuban revolution.

His little Highness, Marco Rubio.

20. Whatever shall we do with the extra buck-fifty a month?

Seriously, Americans by and large pay X number of dollars (sometimes over $100) for cable, with its commercials and edited-down shows and rosters of nothing but reality manure, hour after hour, and the GOP goes after the educational and cultural program that the corporations don't see as profitable enough and demographically appropriate for advertisers. Sheesh.

And I think senator Warner called in and asked him about a treaty Warner worked on....Rubio said he disagreed with the treaty and wouldn't vote for it.

I thought Warner was dead....

30. i loved the part where he "denied" knowing of Michele Bachman like- 3 times!

i loved the part where the caller asked about Michele Bachman's "Muslim Brotherhood" letter and asked him to speak against her McCarthy-esque tactics and he replied: "Look- i don't know her, i've never met her, i don't even know who she is... "

I then sent an article to Diane showing they met on a few occasions.

All radio stations should be owned by Rupert Murdock and alternate between Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck 24/7. Too bad Josef Goebbels is dead because he could be in there too, even if he does speak some funny furrin' language.

Republican strategy: Block all Obama's job plans and slow down the economy---then complain about the economy.
And propose stupid shit like defunding NPR--the only middle of the road media with a semblance of journalism.

Idiots.
