Hunters charged in Texas shooting had blamed immigrants

Source: Associated Press

SUNDAY, FEB 19, 2017 11:00 AM EST

PRESIDIO, Texas (AP) — Two hunters accused in a shooting on a Texas ranch near the Mexican border had told authorities they were shot by immigrants who had entered the U.S. illegally.

Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez told Odessa television KOSA (http://bit.ly/2llzxzr ) that a grand jury indicted Michael Bryant and Walker Daugherty on charges of using deadly conduct by discharging firearms in the direction of others.

The charges stem from a Jan. 6 incident where police found Daugherty and another hunter, Edwin Roberts, with gunshot wounds. Dominguez says an investigation found that Daugherty shot Roberts and Bryant shot Daugherty.

The hunters’ claim that immigrants shot them became fodder for a Facebook post by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller. He wrote the attack was another reason why a wall must be built along the border.

EL PASO, Texas - A doctor from Florida is recovering at University Medical Center in El Paso after he and another person were allegedly shot while on a hunting trip.

WEAR, the ABC affiliate in Pensacola, Florida, reports 54-year-old Edwin Roberts was shot in the arm and Walker Daughtry was shot in the abdomen. The men were reportedly hunting at the Circle Dug Ranch near Candelaria, Texas, about a five hour drive from El Paso.

WEAR reports Roberts is a chiropractor in Pensacola. A reporter with the TV station spoke with Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominquez, who reportedly mentioned the attack was "not linked to cross border violence."

. . .

A Go Fund Me account for Walker Daugherty states the men "were involved in a shootout with some illegals, when the illegals tried to steal Walker's RV with them still inside."

While guiding an aoudad hunt in Presidio county Texas, a New Mexico hunting guide was shot in the abdomen and seriously wounded Friday night after what appears to have been an attempt to kidnap his clients on the Mexico border.

. . .

Multiple assailants fired upon an RV parked near a hunting lodge where the party was staying for the hunt. The contracted hunter and his wife were asleep in the in the RV when the attack began.

Walker Daugherty, 26, of Chloride, NM was wounded while attempting to stop the assailants from taking the RV with his clients inside. He was assisted by another guide, Michael Bryant; the men were staying inside the lodge with their wives.

Per a family source, everyone was in bed preparing for an early hunt, the guides and cooks inside the house and the clients in the rental RV parked nearby. Walker heard voices outside and went to see what the noises were, he witnessed men with guns attempting to take the RV, he then ran back inside to get help. Walker and Michael armed themselves to defend and protect the client and to attempt to deter the assailants while the hunter attempted to escape in the RV which was being shot at repeatedly. The vehicle is riddled with bullet holes from the attack and suffered other structural damage.

What could be more manly than forcing a horse to carry around another large, non-threatening animal you've killed?

Hunters shot near border blamed illegal immigrants. But they shot each other, cops say

The Washington Post

Hunting guides Walker Daugherty and Michael Bryant were leading a hunting party in southern Texas in early January, when they claimed immigrants illegally crossed the nearby Mexico border, converged on their camp in the middle of the night and tried to rob them.

Gunfire erupted. When the smoke cleared and the fight was over, Daugherty was bleeding from a shot to his abdomen. Another member of the party had been shot in the arm.

After being airlifted to the hospital, the men told authorities that immigrants who crossed the border from Mexico wanted to steal an RV some of the hunters were using. In statements made through friends and family, they went further, suggesting that the assailants wanted to kill everyone in the party, as the Albuquerque Journal reported.

. . .

The story was harrowing, to be sure, not to mention rife with political implications. The Texas Agriculture Commissioner even shared it on his Facebook page, saying it underscored the need for President Trump’s proposed border wall.

Might as well get used to what we Texans have known for some time. Ol' Sid is so twisted, he even missed out on a place in trump's cabinet. All hat, no cattle. And no evident brain activity.
