Mitt Romney Ad Taken Down Over Copyright Claim

One day after President Barack Obama's campaign put out a brutal ad making fun of Mitt Romney's singing abilities, the Romney campaign responded in kind with a web video mocking Obama for singing Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."
However, on Monday afternoon, that video was no longer available. Viewers who tried to watch it were greeted with a fuzzy screen and the message:
This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by BMG_Rights_Management.

(13,593 posts)The media wants you to think it's tight so you tune in and hear/watch their ads. It also helps them sell ad time to the political parties. They stand to make hundreds of millions of dollars if they can convince everyone it's a tight race.

(3,056 posts)I've been wondering the same thing. Look at not only the sheer number of people showing up, but the looks on the faces of the people in the crowds. Romney's crowds are much smaller, and they tend to look bored as hell. We've all seen the pictures here of the Obama events. No tight shots needed. And the folks are ecstatic. He absolutely connects with the 99%. And yet we keep hearing this race is a dead heat. I think you're absolutely right about the media. All they want to do is pump up their advertising revenues.
In a way, that might work to our advantage, because you know the right wing will go out on election day, hold their noses, and vote for Mittens. If dems think this thing is wrapped up, too many might stay home. Between that and the voter purges going on, it might just make it close enough for Rove's special voting machines to flip to election.

(6,755 posts)which is a site with polls by state (how the election is won). MSM keeps saying it comes down to FL or OH. Not true!!! The site shows all the ways Obama wins without either of those states. Romney may need both to win, but Obama does not.

(53,661 posts)And there have been some pushbacks against GOP voter suppression, but they've gone all out in the last year. I worry, really I do.
beyurslf
(6,755 posts)but he wins the presidency. Ifhe lost OH, according to it, he would have 279 votes, so he still wins. OH and FL can suck it....they are no longer the winner take all states.

(53,661 posts)Million Democratic voters there. And it was in the Obama map in 2008. I don't know if it should be counted on now. Gone back to check.
OR should not be in play but the GOP has made inroads funding right wing religion on the west coast. The spread of 58 is to be expected. Thanks for the news.
EDIT:
Obama 297
Romney 241
Not happy about this:
Senate
Dem 49
Ties 3
GOP 48
New polls: CO FL OH VA
GOP pickups: FL IN IA NC
Dem pickups: (None)

(11,075 posts)They really don't have a freakin' clue, do they?
On edit: The man's been running for president forever. How can his campaign be this bad??? They're not prepared to answer any questions about his taxes or his time at Bain, their candidate acts like an android when in the company of regular people, and now they're resorting to copycat ads that completely miss the point of the ad it's supposed to be copying!
HOW IS THE RACE SO CLOSE?!?!?

(2,142 posts)That jumped out at me too. No freaking clue is understating it. Or just maybe, deliberately misrepresenting it to avoid mentioning the real meat of the ad. Hmmmmm.....

(2,286 posts)Look how many people watch and vote for American Idol. I'll take Obama's sexy crooning over Romney's butchering of God Bless America any day. I thought it was a mistake for them to showcase Obama's singing since it's so smooth and mesmerizing.
And Romney's people can't get that ad pulled since that song is in the public domain. Haha.

(27,137 posts)...Katharine Lee Bates and Samuel A. Ward have risen from their respective graves in order to demand that Mittens stop butchering their song, America the Beautiful.
They said that he must cease and desist attempts at singing, or they'll haunt the Republican Convention!
- It wasn't until later that they realized that this was an empty threat.......

What's more, isn't (or wasn't) Cowell an executive with BMG? HMMMMMM....

(81,220 posts)I was just talking to my husband about this - we were trying to remember the last time a Democrat pilfered someone's song without their permission and was forced to cease and desist. We couldn't. However, we could each think back to fucking reagan to multiple republi-CONS who've helped themselves to bands' or songwriters' work without asking.
I tell ya - it's The World's Biggest Entitlement Program at work and on display! "You want it? Shit! Just take it! You can always give it back later. But it rightfully should be YOURS for the taking anyway, shouldn't it? 'Cause it's okay if you're a republi-CON. The rules don't apply to you. Oh well, better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission."
Just off the bat, Springsteen smacked the reagan campaign upside the head for stealing "Born in the USA" without his permission.
John Cougar Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" was ripped off by the mcsame campaign AND by reagan, Tom Petty's "American Girl" was ripped off by the michele bachmann campaign, Heart was ripped off by mcsame/palin for using "Barracuda" as her theme song at the 2008 convention. AND MORE...

Greed, selfishness, theft, and an overinflated sense of entitlement. That sums up the prevailing attitude of the GOP.

(42,290 posts)This happens time and time and time again. Violating copyright laws. Using content without permission. STEALING the work of others in the marketplace.
Then they vote in the most draconian laws punishing 16 year olds for downloading MP3s.
Unreal.

(3,056 posts)The operative word here is "intellectual". You have to be it to respect it, or understand it. These are people that have been denigrating intellectuals, or for that matter, anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together, since Agnew. They worship "stupid", because stupid is easier to control than smart. Why do you think they started attacking public education when Reagan got into office?
