John Kerry’s office blasts Mitt Romney over inaccurate claims about tax returns
Source: The Globe
Senator John Kerry has been working on his Mitt Romney impersonation since being cast as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in mock debates with President Obama, but lately it has been Romney likening himself to Kerry, as he seeks to justify releasing only two years of tax returns. Romney and his surrogates have repeatedly claimed that Kerry, the Democratic nominee in 2004, made public just two years of tax returns, despite the fact that Kerry released five years of tax documents and consistently released earlier returns during his Senate races. On Monday, after Romney brought Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, into the argument, the senator’s office blasted Romney, accusing him of “conjuring up false and convoluted alibis.” “As Senator Moynihan once said, people are entitled to their own opinions, but they’re not entitled to their own facts,” said David Wade, Kerry’s chief of staff and the Democrat’s national spokesman during the presidential race eight years ago. “The Romney campaign needs to stop getting their facts wrong about John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry,” Wade added, saying Kerry had put a total of 20 years of tax returns into the public domain by the time he ran for president. 1. Kerry gave five years for the Presidential run, and had released up to 20 years previously.
|
But.. that's not enough for Romney's inept campaign.
Then again, this is the same crowd that trashed Kerry's heroic efforts in the Vietnam War. Funny how they claim to be so indignant over the injustices that they say happen to the Vietnam Vets when they came home, but were given a free pass to attack Kerry's injuries and hero status, because he running against George aWol Bush. |

I never in my life thought people could be so stupid as to elect Bush after knowing that he got us involved in a war in Iraq for false reasons...yet they did..as the right wing smeared John Kerry combat decorated vet.. Never underestimate the power of hate and stupidity! |

2. Romney went after Kerry's wife's returns !?
|
8 years after that race is over??
Was Teresa Heinz Kerry in charge of Bain from 1999 to 2002 or something? Does Mitt think this absurdity is "changing the subject"? The dude is blindly lashing out like a wounded animal. |

5. Believe it was Stephanie Cutter who poised the question on "Face the Nation,"
|
if Mitt wasn't in charge of Bain, who was? Maybe Anne Romney was - that's why Mittens brings up John Kerry's wife?

9. my most generous interpretation of Mitt bringing up Teresa Heinz
|
would be that he is trying to bait the Obama campaign into asking for his wife's returns so he can cry foul again.
But far far more likely is that Mitt has just stumbled into taking a position that implies that HIS wife's returns would also be needed to tell the full story behind his Bain shell game. |

6. If you've known someone who inherited money in a trust arrangement, sometimes (maybe all the time)
|
they have almost no control over how the money is invested or what portion they actually receive. So her tax returns might not have said much about her. I think there were other people, Heinz's children or someone who was co-beneficiary of the trust and didn't want the release. Remember, Teresa Heinz-Kerry's first husband was a Republican. I am not sure that I am remembering this correctly, but it seems to me that someone other than Teresa Heinz-Kerry did not want to release the forms.
