Seattle Mayor Ed Murray: "We Will Not Be Intimidated by the Authoritarian Message Coming from This Administration."

Today, as President Donald Trump issued plans build a border wall with Mexico and crack down on cities that offer refuge to undocumented immigrants, vows to fight back were issued by city, county, and federal officials from Seattle.

"I am willing to lose every single penny to protect those people," Murray said of immigrants, refugees, and Muslims, groups that have been the targets of Trump's onslaught of executive orders in recent days. One of Trump's executive orders, issued today, takes aim at "sanctuary cities," like Seattle, that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. Trump has said he plans to cut federal funding to such cities as a way of coercing them to cooperate with deportations or punishing them if they refuse. Another order will restrict immigration from seven majority-Muslim countries.

In a press conference outside City Hall today, Murray called this "the darkest day in immigration history since the internment of Japanese-Americans."

The mayor was joined by Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole, Northwest Immigrants Rights Project Director Jorge Barón, and a majority of the Seattle City Council, who all pledged that Seattle would not comply with Trump's plans to deport undocumented immigrants.

undocumented workers. If they were serious about it, all they'd have to do is hold the EMPLOYERS accountable for their illegal actions - employing people who dont have documentation is ILLEGAL ... and the problem would be solved, in a far more humane and realistic kind of way.... not to mention effective. Like theres not a gazillion other entry points into thsi country? Its the employers who are setting up the situation that attracts desparate people to come here and do what they need to do.

But you know THAT isnt going to happen any time soon - nope, its more important that they do this big stupid grandiose symbolic thing to satisify the haters wh o voted for it.

We don't have the personnel or the money or the time to do ICE's job. When some asshat beats on their kid or spouse, or fucks up someone else's shit, we want everyone in the community empowered to talk to law enforcement. It's in everyone's best interest that everyone in the community -- no matter their immigration status -- know that everyone is an equal participant in community policing. If our cops and sheriffs are doing La Migra's work, then that's 10% of the community who won't pick up the phone.

Sure, we're bleeding hearts that run deep blue, but this is practical. It's not the local cop shop's job to check papers. Our taxes -- of which we only get back $0.72 for every buck we send -- support an enormous federal infrastructure to handle immigration. If they're too goddam lazy to do their job, then fuck 'em. We're not doing it for them.

Which is how we got the significant (around 30%) moiety of Glibertarians on board with sanctuary.

To Law Enforcement, National Guard and the Military.

Orange Hitler will soon order you to stand against the citizens. His ego is butt hurt.

Where do you stand on pulling a Kent State on the civillian population of America?

You all realize that 'I was only following orders' is not a valid excuse, right?

What will you do?
