In a very hypothetical race for New York City Mayor, Hillary Clinton, running as an independent, tops incumbent Bill de Blasio, running as a Democrat, 49 - 30 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Mayor de Blasio gets a divided 45 - 46 percent job approval rating, little changed from a 47 - 47 percent approval rating in a November 16 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. The mayor does not deserve reelection, New York City voters say 49 - 42 percent.
While he tops possible challengers in a hypothetical Democratic primary, de Blasio falls short of the 40 percent needed to avoid a primary run-off. And former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn or City Comptroller Scott Stringer would be serious challengers running as independent candidates in a general election face-off.
Results for a hypothetical Democratic primary show:
De Blasio - 35 percent;
Former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn - 11 percent;
City Comptroller Scott Stringer - 9 percent;
U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries - 8 percent;
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. - 5 percent;
State Sen. Tony Avella - 1 percent.

(113,042 posts)further divide Democrats. They do it after EVERY election cycle.
They did it to every Dem nominee after a national race. It's to bring their numbers down and cause Dem infighting.
It's a way to keep division in the party at a time when the party's voters are feeling most helpless and vulnerable and most easily led into assigning blame from within.
It keeps you off the GOP's back and fighting each other.
People need to stop being stupid and proving the GOP is smart to continue this strategy.

(2,593 posts)All she has to do is say that she has no intention of running and that she supports Mayor de Blasio's reelection. Instead she has let this thing bubble up in the media for the past two weeks.
