No more words. R.I.P. yet again for that family and this year continues its horrid streak.

(6,974 posts)BumRushDaShow, I had that very same feeling yesterday after Carrie passed, when I heard that Debbie was distraught beyond belief because Debbie had not been in the best of health the last few years.
Not to rehash negatives, but Debbie and Carrie have not always gotten along. Debbie was always there for her daughter through ALL of what Carrie was going through in her own life. Carrie fought hard, and she found the strength to get healthy and fight for her own survival, with the love and support of her family and for sure Mom Debbie. They ended up moving next door to one another. Yes, they'd became a "unit" again, and now, a day later, I'd like to believe that they're together again (I feel), as those bonds of Mother and Daughter hood were too strong to break. My late Mother has been gone for a very long time, but it seems just like yesterday when we had our last hug when Mom was lying in bed, and non responsive. I'd like to believe that me and my late mother will be together again someday as well ....
For Debbie & Carrie:
My prayers go out especially to TODD, the 3rd of the three, for he ESPECIALLY needs our prayers so HE can remain strong. His time on earth here these last 48 hours must literally feel like he's been living in HELL.
For Todd:
Please leave 2016, I BEG of you.
JUST PLEASE LEAVE ALREADY !!!!

(128,874 posts)I have a feeling that given Debbie had her big break in a tough environment at a similar time in life that her daughter eventually experienced, that she over-compensated/projected all her own insecurities/issues onto her daughter. Hollywood is cruel and you see the same story play out over and over with Hollywood/entertainment families. There is often a sense of ruthlessness that prevails.
I know for me, my mother passed a week after New Years almost 2 years ago (had to take her to the hospital New Years Day and eventually a hospice a couple days later where she passed), so this time of year is heartbreaking for me as well although I made every effort for a number of years to spend as much time with her as I could (daily in most cases)... just talking news and other odds and ends. She was 2 years older than Debbie Reynolds.
All I ask is for the drama to just go away. We need some quiet.

I remember Carrie Fisher said when her mother called on the phone she would say. "this is your mother Debbie Reynolds." Always thought that was so funny.

(81,220 posts)It's been a pretty sucky year, all told. Really going out with a bang, too.
Just as long as it goes OUT.
Unfortunately, in any other year, I'd be looking forward to closing the book on the old year and the fresh, optimistic start (or restart) that a new year ordinarily brings, psychologically. But when I think about what 2017 has, laying out ahead, it makes me want to crawl into bed and pull the covers up over my head.

(4,930 posts)Two of my dear aunts in my mother's side died on the same day, about 8 hours apart.
My uncle and his wife died 4 hours apart in the same hospital. Two days later another aunt died. Mom left that in a message on my answering machine: Honey, I hate to leave this on your answering machine but what the hell - your Aunt Maureen died today.

Understandable as can be.
NO parent wants to outlive a child. NOBODY wants to bury one of their children.

She died too young but thankfully without that grief.
My friend buried her daughter at age 11 with leukemia. So much of her died along with her that day.
Young or old, it's a pain that's too hard to withstand.

(28,075 posts)My dad died at 45 and his mother lived in constant fear of losing another of her children after that. About 20 years after Pop died, his sister developed heart problems and that really set grandma on edge.
One day my aunt wasn't able to get hold of grandma. Thankfully her friend offered to drive her to Gram's to check on her. My aunt had a heart attack on the way to grandma's and was pronounced dead at the hospital. After hearing the whole story from my aunt's friend the hospital called grandma's assisted living facility to check on her. Grandma had been seen earlier in the day but after lunch went back to her own apartment where she laid down to take a nap and died in her sleep.
You can't imagine how thankful we all were that she never knew about my aunt.
I'm sorry Debbie Reynolds had to live with that pain for even a day.
