Donald Trump plans to shut down his charitable foundation, which has been under scrutiny for months

Source: The Washington Post

By Mark Berman and David A. Fahrenthold December 24 at 4:28 PM

President-elect Donald Trump said he plans to shut down his charitable foundation, a decision that comes after repeated controversies over how it collected and disbursed funds.

In a statement Saturday, Trump offered no timeline for when his foundation would close down, but said he had directed his attorney to take the steps needed to close the charity.

"The Foundation has done enormous good works over the years in contributing millions of dollars to countless worthy groups, including supporting veterans, law enforcement officers and children," Trump said in the statement. "However, to avoid even the appearance of any conflict with my role as President I have decided to continue to pursue my strong interest in philanthropy in other ways."

The Donald J. Trump Foundation has come under intense scrutiny this year after a series of reports in The Washington Post detailing its practices, including cases in which Trump apparently used the charity's money to settle lawsuits involving his for-profit businesses.

This makes no sense. At least the foundation has funds that should not directly profit Trump. However, what about foreign powers cutting deals with Trump's businesses such that the money given directly profits Trump?

Put another way, if someone donates to Trump's charity where the money nominally is not given directly to Trump that is not permissible. However, if you give money to a Trump business that he personally profits from, that is okay.

What a joke. His only philanthropy is giving gifts to himself. We know what kind of shape the US economy will be in when he and President Putin leave office. The treasury will have been raided to pay off his debts to the Russian businessmen who gave him loans.

The Scumbag in Chief's talk with his son Barron (incidentally, did Donald Trump REALLY name his kid after a financial magazine? That's as bad as Sarah Palin naming HER children after snowmobile parts!)...

"Son, today I'm going to tell you about Philanthropy. That's where we take money from the rich and give it to the poor."
"Who's the poor, Daddy?"
"We're the poor."

He promises, like he promised "donations" to military charities from his hyuge successful fundraiser. Like his promise to self-fund his campaign, and his promise to forgive the loans he made his campaign. Like he promised to release his tax info.

He'll lie blatantly, any time, to get him through any brief moment where accountability is being publicly demanded of him.
