Maine pastor in midst of divorce leaves rehab, kills daughter and self after spray-painting

Source: NY Daily News

A former Air Force chaplain who had just completed 90 days in rehab left the center and immediately killed his adult daughter, scrawled messages against his estranged wife inside the family home and then turned his weapon on himself, police said.

Daniel Randall, 56, and Claire Randall, 27, were found dead inside the Hebron, Maine, house Thursday.

A neighbor checking up on the home assumed the blood on the porch was a leftover Halloween decoration until he saw the words vow breaker spray-painted on the kitchen counter, the Press Herald reported.

Anita, its all your fault, was also painted on a wall, a reference to Randalls wife, who had served him divorce papers earlier this week, police said.

that a person can't be moral if they don't believe in an invisible sky god.

Nonbelievers do not have any kind of lock on doing evil.

He was ill. I can't hate him as much as I hate what he's done.

That poor woman he left behind to suffer... she was trying to heal them both, no doubt, with the divorce.

A curse on everyone who spreads that message that men can have this power over women in their family. Our culture encourages this kind of violence.

And now a poor woman is dead by the hands of her father. Her only crime was being the daughter of her mother.

Nothing but prayers for this family. Mental illness is a fatal disease, make no mistake about that.

A pox on whoever put ideas into the public sphere that agitated this disturbed man into such violence.

Why is it that when someone does something like this and leaves a connection to their religious beliefs, is always mentally ill?

I doubt that there was anything in the public sphere that agitated this man, more like the Biblical belief that divorce is wrong, and by leaving him his wife had broken her vows, “vow breaker”, seems pretty clear!

The pox needs to be placed where it deservedly belongs, on a patriarchal, archaic, belief system that is diametrically opposed to the secular world and country that we live in now!

If this guy had no religion, or a different religion that wasn't a vengeful patriarchy, his life might not have ended so badly and his daughter might still be alive.

Right wing "conservative" fundamentalist Christianity is as horrible as right wing fundamentalist Islam.

I'll also note he was Air Force. That branch of the military seems to have a disproportionately greater number of fundamentalist Christian loons than the other services.

I'm not generalizing that the denomination of his ministry is rotten, or that the Air Force is rotten, but they do have their problems.

Mental Illness, or more likely addiction, played a part in this, but it wasn't the reason Mr. Randall killed his daughter and himself.

his propensity to use violence? Was he a product of the AF Academy? That placed has been a RW screwball cult for awhile, unless Obama got it cleaned up.
